Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

Internet Security - Protect Yourself With Avast! Anti-Virus Free Edition!

By now the top Internet Service Providers (ISPs) offer some form of free Anti-Virus - but many users prefer not to use McAfee or Norton due to the notorious problems of NOT being user-friendly. They can wrapped so tightly in requiring User Approvals that someone can easily click Allow on a wrong port - and the system is toast.

Avast! Anti-Virus is great because it is not invasive and generally runs in the background and does its' job without too much user interaction. Upon initial installation you'll of course want to configure which features you do and do not want. Personally I use the Professional Version, however the Free Versions has done my low-income PC clients very well! In fact I get less calls since I made the switch from AVG to Avast! - which is a double edged sword!

The program walks you through from beginning to end and their website is filled with information and your unit will constantly be in a state where it's ready to warn you of any harmful websites or file downloads.

My Norton Anti-Virus expired yesterday and i want it back

You will either have to purchase another subscription from Norton or use another anti-virus. I recommend using AVG, it is free for home users and ranks at the top with Symantec and McAfee.
