Tip & How-To about Health & Beauty

3 activated carbon Mask mask DIY

Activated charcoal - not to be confused with plain charcoal - has become a common ingredient in skin care products, due to its deep-cleansing properties. It can be found in facial soaps, masks, liquid cleansers, and even in makeup primers with the purpose of preventing your skin from getting oily. Activated charcoal, which is a form of processed carbon, has an adsorptive quality that allows it to bind to dirt, oil and environmental pollutants, lifting them from the skin. It's inexpensive and easy to find at pharmacies and health food stores, usually in the form of capsules or loose powder. You can mix it with your face cleanser for a deep cleanse or use with other ingredients to create simple, effective facial treatments.

Warning
Activated charcoal may stain your clothes. Before preparing any of these face masks consider changing your clothes. Make sure to wear something you don't mind getting dirty when you apply the mask to your face. If your clothes get stained, rinse them right away.

i have an evenflo exersaucer mega farmyard! i put the interchangable toys in a baby sanitizer as i do with all my babys' things, and they melted!! and the paint chipped off like crazy! is this a normal thing to happen to a babys' toy?

A baby wipe is a moistened piece of cloth used for cleaning infants. Baby wipes are for parents and convenient and hygienic. Some parents choose to make their own baby wipes while others purchase baby wipes that are commercially produced. While the ingredients vary from brand to brand, the ingredients in most commercial baby wipe solution are detergents, moisturizing agents, preservatives, and fragrance. Water carries and dilutes the baby wipe ingredients. Detergents Baby wipes contain mild detergents called amphoteric surfactants. The detergents reduce skin irritation and are less irritating to the skin near the ****. The amopheric surfactants are comparable to the detergents that are used in baby shampoo. Most commercial baby wipes use the surfactants sodium diamphoacetate and coco phosphatidyl PG-dimonium chloride. Huggies Natural Care Baby Wipes uses the surfactants potassium laureth phosphate and polysorbate 20. Moisturizing Agents Moisturizing agents, humectants, are added to the cleansing liquid of baby wipes to prevent the solution from drying. The moisturizers also help the skin stay moisturized. Many baby wipes use propylene glycol and glycerin. In addition, mineral oils, silicones and lanolin are added for moisture control. Tushies Baby Wipes with Aloe Vera uses glycerin, allantoin and panthenol as a moisturizer and lubricating compound. Preservatives and Fragrance Many commercial baby wipes contain preservatives to prevent microbial growth. These preservatives include propyl paraben and methyl. Pampers Swipers Baby Wipes contain the preservative iodopropyl butylcarbamate while Tushies Baby Wipes contains potassium sorbate as a natural preservative. Some baby wipes also contain fragrance, such as vanilla, to prevent body odors and attract consumers to the product. Some baby wipes are fragrance free. Natural Ingredients Some baby wet wipe manufacturers feature ingredients to increase their appeal to consumers. Some baby wipes will contain natural ingredients such as vitamin E, aloe vera or oatmeal extract. Many times the Vitamin E in baby wipes will be in the form of Tocpheryyl acetate. Some baby wipes may contain special ingredients like chamomile, cucumber, green tea or lavender, which may be soothing to the skin. The manufacturer will promote these types of baby wipes as a natural product to attract buyers. 8_9_2012_9_23_06_am.jpg

What's in cosmetics?

Fragrances and preservatives are the main ingredients in cosmetics. Fragrances are the most common cause of skin problems. More than 5,000 different kinds are used in products. Products marked "fragrance-free" or "without perfume" means that no fragrances have been added to make the product smell good.

Preservatives in cosmetics are the second most common cause of skin problems. They prevent bacteria and fungus from growing in the product and protect products from damage caused by air or light. But preservatives can also cause the skin to become irritated and infected. Some examples of preservatives are:

•paraben
•imidazolidinyl urea
•Quaternium-15
•DMDM hydantoin
•phenoxyethanol
•formaldehydeThe ingredients below cannot be used, or their use is limited, in cosmetics. They may cause cancer or other serious health problems.

•bithionol
•mercury compounds
•vinyl chloride
•halogenated salicyanilides
•zirconium complexes in aerosol sprays
•chloroform
•methylene chloride
•chlorofluorocarbon propellants
•hexachlorophene
