How to use Windows Command Prompt for Beginners!

You can enter your windows command prompt simply by pressing your windows key along with your R key. Win+R


This command is very useful if you want to see your internet details. Your IP address, your subnet mask, DHCP details and more.


Super useful command that tells you every bit of info about your computer. OS, your processor, your memory, the date your system was installed and lots more.


This is how you use this command. type: tracert fixya.com
You can set any IP or web address you want to track. Tracert is very helpful in finding out if there is a choke somewhere between you and some site that's giving you problems. It's basically a simple way to find out the IP address of any webpage you want, along with the latency.

how d i ipconfig on computer

On your keyboard you have a button that looks like the Windows logo - We call it the start button.

1: Hold the start button down and then click the 'R' key.
2: Then you will see a box pop up, type 'cmd' and press enter.
(If your keyboard doesn't have this for some reason, go to your start menu and type 'cmd' and click enter (without ''))
(In windows XP you would have to go to the start menu, all programs, accessories, command prompt)

3: Command Prompt window is open.
(Black background and white writing)

4: Type 'ipconfig' and press enter.

5: DONE!

cant find my mac address

Assuming this is a Microsoft Windows system...

Click on Start

Then either Run (Windows XP)

Or just type into the dialogue box above the Start button (Windows 7)

Type in: CMD and press Enter

In the black window next to the >

Type in ipconfig /all and press Enter

In the output look for the Physical Address in the 12 character alpha-numeric format of:


This is the MAC address

IP Address

What ip address you need and on what operating system ?
For windows, press the "windows key" (the one with a flag) then type "cmd" and press enter. At the command prompt that appears, type "ipconfig" and press enter. You will find your intrernal ip address there.
If you need your external ip (as seen from internet), open your web browser an go to www.whatismyip.com .
Your external ip will be displayed there.
