There are different ways of copying data from a damaged hard disk. Mostly people use different kinds of software to recover data from a crashed hard drive. But if you are in a hurry or you want complete and proper revival of hard disk data, it is faster and simpler to use a hard disk duplicator. A hard disk duplicator is designed specifically to make one or more copies of a hard disk. The biggest advantage of using a hard disk duplicator is, it doesn't need to be connected with any computer. Generally, a hard disk cloning software is very time consuming and sometimes you might not get your data in a proper state. But a hard disk duplicator guarantees the proper revival of data from another hard drive.
There are some important things to be known before using a hard disk duplicator for copying data from a damage hard drive. These are-

1.Normally, hard disk duplicators have a source unit and a destination unit. You have to place your damaged hard drive into the source unit and inside the destination unit, you will have to place your new hard disk. Generally, a single destination unit is enough for a person where he or she can make a single copy of the hard drive. Some hard drive duplicators include a Fast Copy Option which utilizes the hard drive's file format in order to determine whether the data exists on the hard drive and to duplicate only the sectors which contains data. By utilizing this option, a duplicator can increase its speed of copying data.
2.Some hard disk duplicators can copy up to 10 copies of a hard drive. Obviously, these duplicators are very costly, but, it can save a lot of time for doing a high volume job.
3.You have to connect both the hard drives into the duplicator for copying. Hard disks can be connected with the duplicator by SATA, IDE, SCSI connectors depending on the interface of the duplicators.
4.Hard drive sanitization is an important part of maintaining data security. Proper sanitization of data is a necessity for a person whose hard have confidential or private data. You can save money by buying a hard drive duplicator that also sanitizes data. These Sanitizers normally offers different kind of Wipe algorithms. Check before buying a duplicator that it meets your required wiping template for copying data.
5.If security is your main concern before copying data, you can consider buying a duplicator with logging capability. These duplicators are computer connected and you can monitor all kinds of activities running inside the duplicator. It can also print and record the reports of the sanitization and duplication methods used along with model names, serial number of drives, speed of copying and capacity. These kinds of duplicators is generally used in highly secured industries and companies. Same as any high technology device, you have to buy a duplicator from a credible manufacturer for getting better service. It's best to choose a brand that has a history of good quality and provides a proper warranty for the product.
