HOW OFTEN SHOULD A KITCHEN EXHAUST BE CLEANED?

The most common cleaning frequency is every 3 months. This can vary, however. The kitchen exhaust systems that need cleaning most often are those over wood-burning or charcoal-burning stoves. These should be cleaned every month at least, and in some cases as often as every 2 weeks.
Below are various types of cooking establishments and their most commonly recommended cleaning frequencies.

  • Wood-burning or charcoal-burning stoves, char broilers, 24-hour restaurants, some hamburger places: 30 DAYS.
Many hamburger restaurants and fast-food locations: 60 DAYS.
  • Average restaurant, employee cafeteria, hotel or hospital kitchen: 90 DAYS.
  • Pizza places, convalescent hospital, small snack bar, oven hood: 180 DAYS.
  • Hoods over non-grease-creating appliances, such as steam kettles, dishwashers, soup vats, etc.: ONE YEAR.
Kitchen exhaust cleaning is a standard part of the routine maintenance of any cooking establishment. All kitchen managers or restaurant owners should be aware of its role in fire prevention and ensure it is done on a regular basis.

oil smell smells like it is burning oil last oil change was 3 months ago

Common causes of smelling "burning" oil are:
  1. a leak in the valve cover gasket. When oil leaks from the valve cover gasket, it will often burn off on the manifold.
  2. a blown oil seal causing oil to burn off on the exhaust system
  3. check your exhaust for "blue smoke" a sign that the engine is actually burning oil. Just guessing here but a 16 year old Volvo is bound to have quite a few miles on it.
I hope you found this post helpful in diagnosing your problem. Thank you for using Fixya! Greg

I put in 12 cups of water and only 4 cups come out with coffee what is wrong with this. It is only one month old

This occurs occasionally if the unit needs cleaning or you are brewing a new pot of coffee immediately after emptying a hot pot of coffee.
Run a cup of vinegar through the coffee maker twice, run at least 2 pots of clean water through to rinse the vinegar out.
This should clear the problem until it needs cleaning. The suggested frequency of cleaning is every 30 pots, but this varies depending upon the type of water you use.

pot stops brewing before empty

Hello jearle0249,
This is a really common problem with the cuisinarts. I am most familiar with the DCC-1200, but you may be able to solve the problem. The may be an indication that something is plugged up. Open the top of the unit and in one of the corners you should find a water filter stick or column that is removable. Pull it out and open it up to clean out the clogged up carbon filter in there. (You can later buy a new filter on Amazon.) Clean out the debris from the bottom of the cavity. Replace the stick into the cavity once cleaned. Now it's time to run through a solution of 2 parts water and 1 part vinegar. Do this once or twice with fresh solutions, then with a pot of fresh water. When the filter stick is plugged up the sensor says its time to clean it or shuts the unit down, but most people don't know about this fix. I hope this is helpful to you, jearle. Positive feedback is appreciated. Good luck. NormanZ
