Chainsaw erratic - starts - won't start - dies at steep angle

My chainsaw was erratic. Sometimes it started and ran just fine and at other times it just refused to start or died as I raised it to cut a limb. What I finally realized is that chainsaws are different than other 2 cycles engine devices - they have to work at many different angles (including straight up). For that reason, the fuel filter that is in the gas tank is weighted to keep it at the bottom of the gas tank as you raise and/or lower the chainsaw.
On my Mccullough, the gas line broke right at the weighted filter, allowing the gas line to flop around. That's why it was erratic and died when I raised it to cut a limb. So, if you have erratic operation, take a minute to check your gas filter and be sure it's still attached to the gas line......

my chainsaw started great first time. then it started stalling after cutting. then it siezed up, but i got cord going again. now it wont start at all. ive only cut down 1 tree and still have limbs to cut. i just got this chainsaw recently. and im ready to return it

If you think it seized, whip the muffler off and take a look at the condition of the piston skirt through the open exhaust port, any sign of damage and it will not start again, be aware the shop where you purchased the saw from may well blame the fuel oil mix you have used.

what's the best way to use my 16 in electric saw to cut off tree limbs?

This is somewhat subjective. Eveybody does it a little different. If you are cutting limbs from a tree, start an undercut about where you want the limb to fall free of the tree. Use the upper edge of the chain to cut it about a fourth of the way through. Then start from the top of the limb over where you made the undercut.

Chainsaw idles, goes to high speed for a few seconds but dies under load. Sometimes cuts half a limb before it dies. Changed gas and then changed spark plug. Still dies.

have you looked at the filter in the tank? get a wire hook fish around in the tank it should be on thend of a fuel line inside the tank

my Poulan 3500 chain saw will not start

My guess is that one of your fuel lines has a crack or small hole in it. Inspect these and replace if needed. let me know how it goes.
