Tip & How-To about Dehumidifiers
Not long after my unit ran out of warranty it developed a fault. Less then a minute of being turned on the double fan light would begin to flash and the unit would shut down. The filters were regularly maintained as recommended my the manufacturer. I am not one for just throwing it out and buying a new one, so I stripped it down.
i noticed the dissident wheel was not turning so I removed the motor, stripped it down and re greased the plastic gears within. Then I noticed the dissident wheel itself was catching on something (motor still removed) when I manually turned it. After taking the dissident wheel off I could clearly see the plastic housing behind the wheel was melted and snagging the metal 'spokes' on the dissident wheel. The area is located directly behind the heater unit.
after flattening the plastic down smooth, the unit is now working.
I have concluded the reason this may have happened is the unit being switched off before its shut down process had finished, meaning the metal 'spoke' was stopped next to the plastic with the heater still hot enough to heat the spoke enough to melt the plastic behind causing a snag for the wheel.
so I think the shut down procedure is quite important before turning it off at the wall.
