Tip & How-To about Fisher and Paykel Dishwashers

Fisher and Paykel DD603 fix

I have had issues with the top dish drawer for a while, it will start for several minutes and then beep a few times, open its lid and stop. it did this after a few min OR it will run for a while and shutdown after 90 min or so. I tried swapping parts with the known good dish drawer and the problem stayed with the top dish drawer. it turned out to be a mechanical issue. this is a link to a video I created that will explain this better.

I have a two drawer integrated unit, 7 years old, no problems up to now. Both units started beeping; I disconnected the electrical source. Was able to start the top unit after some time messing with the controls. During/after the cycle, both units started beeping again.

Most likely a F1 fault which means that the Mains Filter board on the bottom pan has detected water, a leak. There are, unfortunately, a few possibilities of the cause of this. Most likely it is bad lid motors (the motors that lift and pull down the lid to seal the drawers) or a broken Link Support. This is the plastic piece that hold all the hoses and wiring out of the way when you open and shut the drawers. A portion of this Link breaks free and gets lodged in between the drawer and the lid causing water to pour out into the lower pan when the unit is running. You'll need to have a Tech out to take a look at it, if you can find one. Good luck.

F1 is a flood code. There are several reasons this could be happening. One, make sure that you are not putting dishes in that are too tall for the drawer and possibly keeping the lid from closing all the way.
Also, on those models, there is a device behind the drawer that guides the hoses and wiring as you open and close the drawer. On older models, this link support was made of nylon and would crack and break loose over time. Then the broken end gets jammed under the back of the lid the next time it is used.
Since the machine is now "wet" it will not stop doing the F! and you should hear the sound of both drain pumps running. The machine is trying to drain itself and it will not allow any other input. It needs to be serviced. Other techs will give bad advice about "just take out the lower drawer and dry up the flood sensor"
Avoid this advice like the plague. There's a reason it got wet and that needs to be determined. There is a diagnostics procedure to make sure the lid motors are operational. This machine should only be serviced by a properly trained Fisher Paykel tech, as many independent techs fancy themselves as Fisher Paykel techs and they know enough to be dangerous...

It may be that the DW thinks the drawer may have been pulled open. On the right side, near the top. there are two light pipes on the drawer. One sends an infrared beam of light to a reflective area on the cabinet, the other receives this light. This is how the drawer senses whether the drawer is open or closed. Wipe these areas with a clean dry cloth.
