Why NEW Macbook Pro doesn’t have a SD Card Slot? To No Avail!

NEW Macbook Pro has been very controversial with enthusiasts and abhorrers, and the comments polarize a lot. This is because Macbook Pro has a number of modifications, for instance, all adopt USB Type-C interface, and cancel SD card lot, while it keeps 3.5mm headphone jack which iPhone 7 gives up.
In a recent interview, Phil Schiller, senior vice president of worldwide marketing at Apple Inc. gives positive reaction to many questions, covering the SD card lot and 3.5mm headphone jack. What are his answers then?

Why NEW Macbook Pro gives up SD card lot for camera memory card?

Phil Schiller: We get multiple justifications. Firstly, SD card lot looks redundant, and it leaves a tail outside when you plug it in. What's more, there are many quick USD Readers, so SD card lot is not a must. And one card lot only reads one card; you still need a card reader if you get many memory cards. So we determine the cancel of SD card lot as a tradeoff. Besides, more and more cameras are equipped with wireless transmission feature, it's very functional. Such being the case, why a SD card lot? We should say it as a progress.

Why keep 3.5mm headphone jack on New MacBook Pro? Doesn't it discord with NEW iPhone?

Phil Schiller: It doesn't. This is MacBook Pro, remember? If the 3.5mm jack is just for headphone, then it's unnecessary, while wireless is a better solution. But there are still many people use 3.5mm jack to do audio work, so it's better to keep it.
Actually, the second answer makes a lot of sense, whilst the first one might be farfetched. To have a SD card lot seems not indeed the most portable way. There are memory cards like CF for people to use after all. It is a truth that card reader is a basic device for photographers, but it cannot be used as an excuse to cancel SD card lot. Anyway, Apple has always engaged in "forcing users to accept new habit", and along the way users think it no big deal over time.

i have silver crest slide and negative scanner, when I try to open it on my MacBook pro i get the message no scanner connected although it is connected

I can think of two possible issues. Assuming that the USB ports work on the MacBook Pro with other devices, try a new USB cable. It's a basic USB 2.0 A to micro-b cable. (See https://www.cablestogo.com/learning/connector-guides/usb#USBMicroB for the shape.) Two:
the scanner driver is not compatible with the version of the Mac OS version on your Mac Pro. The OS compatibility list for the Silvercrest SND 3600 C2 is for Mac OSX 10.6-10.11 is available here: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1395182/Silvercrest-Snd-3600-C2.html?page=83#manual . The D3 version works with Mac OSX 10.6 and higher.

I hope this helps. Please add a comment with the full model number of the slide and negative scanner and OS version on your MacBook Pro.

(By the way, if you are using a USB A (F) to USB C (M) adapter or a USB hub, that could be another source of communication failure between the scanner and the MacBook Pro. Try a direct connection or a different adapter.)
