Tip & How-To about Refrigerators

ICEMAKER TIP FOR GE, KENMORE AND RELATED PRODUCTS

INSTRUCTIONS FOR REMOVAL AND DISMANTLE OF ICEMAKER ARE FOUND ELSEWHERE - BUT IF ICEMAKER HAS STOPPED MAKING ICE , NOTE THIS. REMOVE SQUARE BACK COVER, MAKE WHERE WHEEL IS AT, PUSH CENTER HOLD TO REMOVE WHEEL, REMOVE 3 SCREWS, AND THEN PULL TOP COVER OFF.

HERE IS INSIDE, THE BAD CLIPS WILL BE IN UPPER RIGHT.

NOTE BELOW THE BURNT CLIPS OF HEATER ELECTRODE. THIS IS VERY POOR ENGINEERING AND PROBLEMS MOST OF TIME. TRY TO SHINE UP AND CLOSE BACK, ALUMUMIUM BEHIND MAY HELP, BUT BEST ANSWER TO THIS PROBLEM IS REORDER ONLY THIS SIDE PART OF ICEMAKER.

Icemaker makes Ice But doesn't dispense it.

Had same problem. Looked everywhere and found no solution i'm a not a repairman...they probably do not want to post so they can make 150 for a repair visit. At least try this first it may save you $$. Remove ice bucket from freezer. Remove 2 screws @ auger...remove cover and auger ....remove spring and large hex shaped shaft. heat the large shaft end with a torch and put it back in hot side toward motor until the motor end is not frozen. No torch you can use hot water...but that may freeze again.

This was happing because my flap to the ice was not closing all the way .

Manual for parts can be found here it shows ice maker parts on page 7.

Good Luck Kono

Side by side Whirlpool fridge with ice maker as well as ice and water dispenser in door. Dispenser works for both ice and water so water is getting to the system, but the ice maker has suddenly stopped making ice. (I can't find timer wheel mentioned in another post). Thanks!

If you have a whirlpool icemaker inside of your freezer (I've read on other posts that whirlpool ice makers are installed in various makes and models), there is a white cover over the ice maker (it's square). Remove the square cover with your hands or stick a flat head screwdriver in the side until you can pull it off.

Once the white square cover is removed, you should see a white wheel with gear teeth. In the middle of the white wheel is a plastic snap that should be holding it in. I noticed that one of the little plastic snaps was broken...which caused my "no ice" problem. A simple test is to push the white wheel toward the icemaker. If the wheel starts turning, you have found the problem. You see, behind the whhite wheel are metal contacts that need pressure for the ice maker to work. Without the center plastic snaps holding it it, the pressure is gone...and so is the metal to metal contact.

I previously called Whirlpool, searched all of the web...to no avail. Every other solution was "check for ice blocking the water tube" or "replace your water filter". That's all balony. If your regular water dispenser is working, you don't have an ice problem. And if your water dispenser is working, you don't have to change your fitler either.

If you realize that the little white wheel is the culprit, just google "whirlpool module" and you will see it for sale. I found one on ebay for under thirty buckaroos with free shipping.

Hope this helps.

Ice maker "handle" has been pulled out.

you can reinsert the bail arm back into the icemaker by feel or remove the icemaker and reinsert it. I'm going to give you instructions with the ice maker still mounted to the wall. on the back upper right hand corner of you ice maker you will you will feel a square shped hole at the top. right below this hole is our target. you can use a small mirror to locate this area you will see a white oblong hole that the bail arm end will be inserted into. since the icemaker is not working the arm will ahve to be inserted with the arm in the up position. when you insert the arm you need to do so firmly to make sure the arm goes in all the way. if you cant find the corret spot write me back and I'll walk you through removing the i/m to insert teh arm that way.

Thanks for using FixYa Peyton....

icemaker want stop making ice

The quick answer is to turn the water off to the refrigerator so it quits making until you get it fixed.
If your fridge has the control boards in each side of the freezer cabinet that controls the icemaker, then you have a failed board.
If you have a standard icemaker with the metal shutoff arm then you have a failed motor module in the icemaker.
You can remove the icemaker and unplug the wiring connector from it so you can leave the water on to the dispenser.
Post back if you need instructions on reparing it.
