Stihl Clutch removal

A quick way to remove a clutch on a chainsaw it to use an impact wrench. REMEMBERING THAT ITS CLOCKWISE FOR REMOVAL. You wont need to use a piston stop and there is generally enough resistance from the compression to hold the piston while the impact gun does its job.

Assuming you want to remove the clutch spider, which typically is left-hand threaded onto the crank. Not knowing if it's an internal (chain drive sprocket is "outboard") or external clutch, here goes for both. After removing bar & chain.
Internal: CAREFULLY (so it doesn't fly) remove clip from crank, remove washer, clutch drum, bearing and/or rim sprocket. Remove recoil starter. Using proper tool to fit clutch "spider" and impact wrench, turn it CLOCKWISE with wrench to unthread it.
External: Remove bar & chain and recoil starter. Using tool to fit the clutch "spider" and socket on impact wrench, spin the spider off CLOCKWISE. You can then remove remainder of clutch & bearing.
Be sure to grease the bearing while it's accessible.
Starter removal avoids applying any load if the crank turns.

how to remove the clutch from a ms070 stihl chainsaw?

you will need something to stop the piston from moving in the cylinder then turn the clutch clockwise since it is reversed threads. DO NOT use impact drivers on it unless you have the flywheel off and even then you shouldn't do it. they are torqued down really tight and will take some effort to get it loose

chainsaw clutch removal

All Husqvarna chainsaws have the clutch spun onto the crankshaft with a left hand thread, this makes them self tightening, if there is a nut as part of the clutch centre you can use a socket and speed brace to jat the clutch off against compression, a impact wrench works great for this, if there is no nut there will be a special tool for it, it depends on the model as to which tool you need,

how to remove chainsaw clutch in poulan pro 4218 avl

you have to buy a hard plastic plug which you place into the spark -plug hole. they are inexpensive. Be sure to get the right one with the proper thread.

You then remove the bar and chain. Next, using a socket and wrench you turn the clutch assembly clockwise. (as opposed to counter-clockwise). It will loosen up . then you remove the clutch and install whatever you want. Leave the plug in until you are finished then install everything and tighten up the clutch fairly tight. Do not over tighten. You may break the piston. Turning the clutch thread clockwise this time.

need to replace clutch & drive sprocket

The threads are left-handed. Remove the spark plug and with the piston high enough to prevent entry into the exhaust/transfer ports, stuff some pull rope into the cylinder head and upper cylinder to block the piston from rising much further. You may need to get a special tool to remove the clutch core assembly--don't use an impact wrench as it will shear the flywheel key. If the clutch won't drive the chain and is full of oil, try washing the clutch drum out with spray carburetor cleaner and let dry. This might save the expense and trouble of replacing it. Hope this helps!
