macbook heats up a lot

A frequent cause of over heating is blocked air vents or a clogged fan. Use vacuum cleaner nozzle not too close to air vents and try and suck out surplus dust. Obviously don\'t then use it flat on your lap or bed, air needs to get to it all round!

coins in macbook cd slot

This happened to me yesterday. My 3-year-old stuffed the Macbook's DVD/CD slot full of game tokens, hoping that one of them would play a movie. Took me his entire naptime to extract them, but everything works fine now.

First, open the guts of your laptop and remove the optical drive. Depending on your model the appropriate guide should be here:
www.ifixit.com/Guide/search/macbook+optical+drive+replacement

Among those I found the following excellent guide for mine:
http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Core+2+Duo+Optical+Drive+Replacement/518/4

Once the drive is out you can skip most of the remaining (replacement) steps, since you're putting the same drive back in.

Now switch to the following guide to get foreign objects out:

Good luck!

macbooks are very expensive to fix if you take them to the so called genie bar. so try a mall store to fix it or if money i no problem take it to the apple store.

I have a Macbook Pro late 2011. 2.4ghz 4 gigs of ram 500gb hard drive. My computer wont fully start up. When it turns on it shows the apple logo the spinning wheel and loading bar. Then the bar goes away and then turns off. I know I need a new hard drive. But I don't have a back up of my computer. I was wondering if there was any way to back up the Macbook without getting it to fully boot up. Thanks.

Yes, there is a way to backup your Macbook .. but it will require you removing the hard-drive and using a SATA to USB adapter so you can retrieve the data from it.
