Tip & How-To about Office Equipment & Supplies

Install HP OfficeJet Pro K5400 color printer on Windows 10 64 bit.

I went around in circles for two hours trying diagnostic programs from HP that were supposed to install this printer. Instead they basically just bring up the Windows Add Printer dialog...but the printer was never available from the hundreds of HP printers in the dropdown list.

The solution is to run the Windows update form the Add printer dialog box to get additional printers options. This may take a half hour or more to run, but once it has, it will include the K5400 in the list. Once installed, it works fine with MS Office and Adobe Creative Cloud applications.

downloaded the software from HP for my PSC 1350 All-in-One, and it ran on my XP machine, got to 100% extracted, then the screen just went to my desktop..... No action..... No install wizard. No indication of where the files extracted to, if anywhere..? I looked in Add-Remove Programs and it wasn't listed there. (I do have another HP deskjet installed on the same machine, which I also use and don't want to give up). I've tried downloading and installing all of the fixes associated with the 1350 printer, and both the Basic software package, and the complete. No matter which software package I pick, I never get an installation wizard pop up. I tried having HP detect it and ran through the process with the same results. Is there a way I can get just the .sys or .dll or .inf files I need and put them in some directory and have it work? My computer sees the printer, but installation always fails because it can't find the install files, and I can't point it to a .exe file and have that work. Printer Diagnostic Utility said to uninstall it, but it couldn't do it, (Uninstall utility missing), & said to do it from Add-Remove programs or Program Files, but it does not appear anywhere. It appears to be installed in some hidden fashion, corrupted. Thanks!!! Driving me nuts!

it is very possible that because you have another hp printer active with that computer, and the software from the new hp printer may be conflicting with the software already installed into that computer, and becuase of that, the computer automatically drops the new installation of the software from the new printer, just like it never happened, in almost any case, you will have to uninstall the whole software program from the other printer already installed into that computer, and install the new software into your computer, if that still doesnt work, then your new printers software, the new printer, or both are not compatable with your computer

HP Deskjet F4480 will not print after vista to windows 7 upgrade. Ran HP printer diagnostic tool says driver conflict, uninstalled re-installed same problem, same diagnositics. Attempted to print test page, see it being sent but it does not print. Have done pwr on off, re-boots etc. HP Soution Center, sees the printer. All seems normal but does not print. Connect F4480 to another windows 7 system (installed direct vs the problem computer which went to windows 7 via the upgrade) and it works perfectly. This upgraded system shows nothing in the print buffer. The requested printed file just seems to disappear.

Windows 7 comes with basic driver built into the operating system (in-OS driver). With this basic driver, the buttons on the product do not function and some of the advanced product features are not available. However, using the workaround procedures in this document, you can still print from a software program. You can also import and view images on a memory card, if your product has a memory card slot. When you connect the product to the computer, Windows 7 detects the hardware and automatically installs the correct driver. A notification lets you know when installation begins and when it is complete. You do not have to download any software or insert the product CD. Follow these steps to install the basic driver in Windows 7.
  1. Turn the product on.
  2. Connect the Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable to the product and to the computer.
  3. A Your devices are ready to use window might display on the screen. If the window displays and does not close automatically, close the window.
Your basic Windows 7 driver is now installed. Some functions might not be available, but you can use the following workaround procedures instead.

hp 99 cartridge is suppose to fit in a hpc4385 but will not is installation differant than the others?

Yes #99 is supposed to go into the printer... remember when you try to install a #99 cartridge you need to take out the black cartridge... (i.e. #99 is used instead of the black cartridge).

Hope this helps,

HP soln Center "Not Responding"

Try reinstalling the software,

first uninstall the software from add or remove programs or programs as it may be called in vista.

After the programs are uninstalled, you need to unplug the printer untill asked to plug back in during the install of the driver and software.

Let me know how it goes.
