Tip & How-To about Miscellaneous

Read your question before you post it - PLEASE!!!!

Folks - please read what you write down before you press the submit button. And when you do, please put yourself in the place of the person(s) at the other end of the line who are going to receive the question you write. Well over half of the questions submitted here on Fixya will never get an answer. WHY?

Because:

  1. They are not a question. Many people simply state their current situation. Sometimes we can ascertain what the question should be, but often their submission is simply a statement of fact - one that we have no idea what they want to accomplish from it.
  2. They do not contain a description of the device. Many items are listed in the wrong category because the person asking the question fails to identify what it is they are talking about. Sure, you know, you've been tearing your hair out for who knows how long at trying to solve the issue, but we are totally new to the problem. Make sure you state exactly what you are having problems with, and be sure to do it in the body of the description in case the category gets fouled up. Include the manufacturer, model number (and engine size for cars), and anything else important about the device.
  3. They tell us what is broke, but give no pertinent details. "My oven won't heat - why?" How would you answer that question? You don't know what type of oven it is - who made it, what model it is - is it gas or electric?
  4. They don't describe the conditions that led up to the failure or issue. This makes it harder to determine what may have been the cause, and thus what may be the solution.
  5. They don't tell us what they've done thus far in trying to fix the problem. That goes a long way to helping to determine what you still need to try.
I could go on and on about this issue, but you get the point. If you want an answer from us (a good one that is), make sure you ask a complete, concise question that contains all the details we need to answer it. Those who try but don't quite get enough will often get our attention and we will ask for more data, but the majority of them are so vague that in our opinion, if you can't take the time to ask the question, we won't waste our time trying to answer it.
One last thing, remember that this is the WWW. The questions asked come from all parts of the globe, and many of the experts do as well. Many times we experts look to the Internet to find answers to your questions as we are often more knowledgeable at ferreting out data. If you let us know what country you are from, it often assists us in locating things like user manuals and such, since manufacturers make different models for different countries and have different websites for them. Just saying.

conair scale ww36gd err reading

I have a WW36DG digital scale and most of the instructions are the same, so far as I can see. When you tap on the scale, 888.888 appears. It is just seting itself. If you step on the scale before it reads 00.0 it wil give you a Err signal. If you stepped on the scale after it read 00.0, and an Err signal appears, either your battery is very low or it is malfunctioning. it does have a 10 year warranty on it. For the person wanting to set the scale, here are the directions. Good luck.
