Screen is split in half. One half darker than the other colors are all messed up. Lots of green outlines on subjects on screen

Hi Robert,
This appears to be case of dirty ribbon and connector between the TCON board and the LCD panel. The ribbon or flat cable and its connector on the defective side between the TCON and the panel has to be cleaned thoroughly. If you can not do it yourself, any good tv Tech. should be able to do it for you.
Good luck.

Have a Magnovox 42MF531D/37 and are trying to replace the TCon board. However, we are having an issue with the brown "straps" - we don't know how to get them off of the old one.

If you are talking about the flat ribbon connections that go from the Tcon board to the LCD panel, the you just have to lift up the little tab on the connector that is on the Tcon board. It should flip up like a little hinge and once that is unlocked then the flat ribbon cable will pull straight out.

To replace the flat ribbon cable just slide it straight into the connector ensuring the little flip up tabs are up first. Once the ribbons are fully inserted into the connector then flip the little tab back down which locks the ribbon into position.

Good luck and post back if this helps or if you need more assistance.

half of my screen goes out from time to time. how do i fix that.

This is likely a problem with your TCON circuit board inside the back of the tv.

The TCon board usually has 2 very thin ribbon like cables running from connectors on the board to the actual LCD screen panel. Each ribbon controls one half of the screen. If you are lucky, it's possible one of the ribbons came loose or is not making proper electrical contact with the connector on the TCON board.

If your tv is out of warranty and you are comfortable working safely with electronics then you may be able to repair this yourself with a few hours of screwdriver work. The ribbons may just need to be reseated in the little flip up connectors, or you may have to clean the copper at the tips of the ribbons gently with a pencil eraser to remove any oxidation.

If you are unlucky enough to have a bad TCON board or are not comfortable disassembling your tv yourself then you can bring it in to the shop and they can probably repair it for less than $150.

Good luck and please post back if this helps and with how you make out.
