Picture your project

Simple thing to do before you start taking something apart snap a picture of it from different angles, and as you take stuff off lay it out like how it will go back together just like if you were going to atriculate a skeleton of say a rabbit

Color is out on one side of monitor. After about one month of perfect use, the color on the right side is different than on the other side

sorry darling, but you've gotta take it back. It sounds like a larger problem than a simple fix here or there. It is internal with the monitor. I love ASUS stuff, but sometimes one falls through the cracks,

I am trying to find a keyboard layout so I can take the keys off and clean them. Do you know where I can download a picture or instructions for doing this. I have a Dell Inspirion 1525 Laptop. Can you help me? Thank you, Lisa Carpenter

You can view (or download) a service manual at Dell's site here. It shows how to remove the keyboard, which will make working on it much easier for you and will prevent possibly damaging the laptop with any cleaning material.

Neither the service manual or the setup guide on the site show a detailed key layout. What I do is take a picture or two with my cell phone camera so I can remember how things look before taking them apart. You can also lay the keyboard down on a scanner, if you have one, and make a picture of it that way.

It's not hard to take the keys off as they just snap on. But they really aren't designed to be removed, and the thin plastic snap tabs are fragile. Sometimes they don't snap back on securely once they come off. Work carefully and don't use excessive pressure in snapping the keys back in place.

If you're trying to clean the keyboard because of a spill, you may just be better off replacing it. New keyboards aren't expensive (around $20 to $30), and as you'll see in the service manual they are easy to change. This site even claims they have the keyboard for under $10.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck with the repair, and thanks for using Fixya!

getting the monitor apart

It is clipped on, or there is a hidden screw underneith a sticker or something.

They make these things hard to disassemble for a reason. There is very little you can do one you've got it open. There's almost nothing inside that can be serviced by any normal user.
