Tip & How-To about Samsung Bn44-00167a Lnt4061f Power Supply Board

SAMSUNG LNT4061F - LNT4661F SERVICE MODE

General Alignment Instruction
1. Usually, a color LCD-TV needs only slight touch-up adjustment upon installation. Check the basic characteristics such as height, horizontal and vertical sync.
2. Use the specified test equipment or its equivalent.
3. Correct impedance matching is essential.
4. Avoid overload. Excessive signal from a sweep generator might overload the front-end of the TV. When inserting signal markers, do not allow the marker generator to distort test result.
5. Connect the TV only to an AC power source with voltage and frequency as specified on the back cover nameplate.
6. Do not attempt to connect or disconnect any wire while the TV is turned on. Make sure that the power cord is disconnected before replacing any parts.
7. To protect against shock hazard, use an isolation transformer.

The screen has narrow white lines across the top 3 inches, on cable and with a VCR Tape in.

hello,
Where all colors are involved - the lines are essentially white or gray (or with a slight tint due to slight unequal settings of the color adjustments), look for something common like an incorrectly adjusted screen (G2) or master brightness/background/bias control or a problem in one of these circuits, a defective power supply or a problem in the blanking circuitry:

Screen (G2) or master brightness/background/bias control - mark setting and then see if a slight adjustment removes the retrace lines. See the chapter: "TV Adjustments". Of course, if this happened suddenly, the problem is not due to a misadjusted control though a dirty pot is possible - turn it back and forth - this might clean it and restore normal operation.

Power supply or connection to CRT neck board - insufficient voltage will result in the CRT never totally blanking. Check (usually scan derived) power supply components (from flyback).

General power supply - check B+ for correct value and ripple. A main power supply fault might result in these symptoms (and usually many others).

Blanking circuit - this may be a part of the video/chroma chip or separate. Check waveforms to determine if the blanking pulses are making it to the video output.

red area/red line on tv screen

Odds are it is your convergence chips! If you have any colors out of alignment, thats what it is. Also if you had a speaker too close to the Tv it can cause colors to shift. There should only be 1 mirror. IT would have NOTHING to do with your problem. If you are only have problems with the red, just replace the one STK chip. They run about $20-30 on ebay. $5-10 if you buy china made. Usually the cheap ones dont get along with sony.

getting "red" double image

Your TV most likely has a Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together convergence repair kits for most models.

The kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, etc. Everything you will need to do the repair yourself.

Ghost and red

Sounds like the TV needs major convergence alignment and possibly a a full color scale adjustment. Projection TV's have the most alignment issues. Since I don't know manufacturer I can only give you general ideas. Most projection TV's have either auto or manual alignments which can be accesed through the menu. However the adjustments may be tricky to get to. Once convergence is done if video is still red you will need to get in the TV and set up biasing levels on each tube. Hopefully the tubes are just slightly degraded and can be readjusted for a nice quality image.
I suggest finding a local guy and asking him to possibly do a quick a;ignment for a fixed price.
Good luck
