Tip & How-To about Miele CVA4070 Coffee Maker

Miele CVA4070 Steam (capucinatore) makes no noise and produces no steam

There are numerous problems where you get little or not steam but you can hear the pump trying to do something, this is often a blockage or a venturi tube problem and you can find numerous posts about how to fix it. If you get no noise at all when requesting steam then it is likely that the steam pump has failed. You can find the instructions to remove the steam pump (and most other components) here:
http://www.cagrimmett.com/justanswer/cva4075.pdf
and you will also find detailed schematics of each of the systems. I removed the back plates as described and found that my steam pump showed clear signs of having burned out while the coffee/hot water pump looked fine.

What's wrong with my machine? Espresso is fine, but no steam.

Agree with previous suggestion. The steam pipe is most likely blocked and generally the blockage occurs in the bend of the steam pipe. Either try removing the wand and clearing it or use a thin piece of wire/pipe cleaner and insert it up the pipe. It could alternatively be a piece of limescale blocking it so it may be worthwhile to try descaling the machine if after clearing blockage. Hope this helps.

water does not flow through the coffee group but only exits viasteam pipe. Decalcifying and cleaning or resetting factory settings do not solve the problem. what to do?. The problem occurs after I have used the stem pipe to froth milk. When I clean the steam valve steam does not stop immediately.

Hi
When you are finished with steaming, try pushing the steam button again and then opening the steam valve to purge the steam. Do this until the water flows freely. You should hear the pump change tone. If you have a pre grind button, try that without putting any coffee in the pre ground chute, then push a medium coffee. Water should flow through the brew unit freely. If not, you are getting a blockage in the brew unit. If it does, your grind on the machine might be too fine. Change to a coarser grind and try again. It usually takes 3 cycles before the grind is in effect.

no hot water or steam

Well, I have little exposure to Saeco, but a lot to commercial coffee machines.
Saeco have a lot of custom made components, although these can be purchased, nothing is cheap! Neither is their repair service!
First, is the boiler heating?? If so:
No hot water/ no steam suggests a blockage. Assuming you can hear the pump working when attempting to do a coffee, you will probably find the water flowing back into the water tank via the relief valve. Of course, this valve itself could be the problem, or the pump failing to work through a blocked inlet filter or other problem.
Look now at the group head. Ever cleaned it? The filter and spray block should be removable, do so and clean them carefully. While you have them out, see whether water reaches the head by "making a coffee" into a cup placed under the head. BE CAREFUL OF SCALDING. If water now flows, cleaning the screen and spray block should restore operation.
Beyond that, it's inside the machine! There is a 3- way valve that operates when making a coffee. This can become clogged with coffee. There is another valve to open the steam.
If, like Saecos I have worked on, the boiler does both the hot water and the steam one at a time, look for problems BEFORE the boiler.
Hoe this helps a little....

Part 2 -Flashing water light - will drain water but will not make coffee

Blinking light often means pump is not delivering water. Possible blockage from corrosion. Can also mean a valve blocked.
Do you hear the pump run?

Steam Valve Problem

Make sure there is no milk residue in the steam wand preventing water from passing through.

If your valve is damaged you can purchase on at http://cerinicoffee.com/Saeco_steam_valve_replacement_kit.asp
