Power to radio and clock won't work in my car. I think there is some sort of electrical problem.

Hi Colin,

Check your car's owner manual to learn the location of fuse box. Locate the fuse in the fuse box that powers the radio. Check it and / or replace it with the size recommended in the manual (the clock is probably powered from the same fuse).

Since your radio appears to be an after-market type, it is difficult to know how it was wired / connected. Most installers prefer to use a "wiring harness kit" between the radio wiring and the car's wiring; as no cutting of the car's wiring is required and the radio can be wired to the harness kit at a desk or table instead of having to do it in the car. Regardless of how wired, the fuse in the car's fuse box may not be blown or open - there is probably a fuse (or two) on the power wires for the radio as well. Many radios need a switched power source (so the radio shuts off when the key is off / removed) and an unswiched power source (to maintain the station presets and clock when power is off). Check and make sure both fuses are good - replace as needed.

If still unable to get the radio / dash clock to work, you will probablyu need to carefully trace the wires and connections to make sure all are proper and tight. If you do not know if they are in the right place after tracing them out - you'll need to bring the car to a shop and have it done professionally.

Good luck!

The battery died in our 1995 500sl Mercedes. Now the radio says we need a code to turn it on. We do not have an owner's manual.

Usually your Mercedes dealer can get you a code for a nominal fee. They usually require the s/n off of the radio, and the VIN off of the car.

Check your owner's manual, just to be sure the sticker isn't in there from the original owner.

don't know what the warning light means that keeps coming on! It looks like a Christmas bulb or upside down acorn . . .

The heiroglyphs mystify me also. First move would be to check the
picture key in your owner's manual section pretaining to the instrument cluster specific to your car. Without actually having that in hand or being specifically familiar with the car, it would only be a guess.
Owner's manual should explain this in enough detail for the average
user to become familiar with the function of their vehicle.

The Check engine light blinks occasionally (not all the time, and about the speed of about 2 times per second). The previous owners pilfered the owner's manual, so we cannot look it up. Any ideas or suggestions of what it means? I'll keep looking for solutions online, but I haven't found anything yet. Any help would be great - especially if someone knows where I can find a PDF file of the owner's manual for this car! They would be my hero for sure.

Hello Richard, the owners manual would not help you on this problem. A flashing engine light means the engine is doing something abnormal, but it hasn't happened enough to turn the light 'solid.' - There should be a trouble code(s) saved which can be read by a scanner. You need have it scanned and get the codes, from there, repairs needed can be determined. I hope this information is helpful.
