Tip & How-To about SpeakerCraft MZC-66 6-Zone 6-Source Controller-Amplifier-Receiver

What do i need to program a speakercraft mzc64, mzc66, mzc88 ?

This info is meant for all the Speakercraft MZC controllers.

The software used to program the mzc controllers is called EZ TOOLS the latest version of which is 401. This version handles both the IR database versions released in these units.

V313 is the older one and 401 is the latter.

you will need a laptop which runs windows, EZ tools is native to XP but should work emulated under later versions of windows. I have this running on linux under wine with some basic command line mods to allow the com port to be seen by wine, this works well although some of the rendering of graphics looks incorrect but still good enough to use.

You also need a cable with a female 9 pin d sub at one end and a stereo 3.5mm jack plug at the other, use screened cable.

The correct port to use on the back of the mzc is the jack com port not the dsub rs232 port.

There is no way to copy theprogram off a machine, you have to either have the origion project file that works in ez tools or start from scratch with a new file.

If you need to transfer from one mzc to another one if the first mzc unit has failed hardware, you can remove the rom chip which is plugged into the control board located behind the front panel. This can be swapped over to the other mzc and is the identity of the mzc controller.

For making up a communication cable use the following pins..

Pin2 dsub to tip of jack
Pin3 dsub to ring of jack
Pin5 dsub to earth jack

Trust this info helps.
