How to Identify the Type of Bottom Bracket on a Schwinn IC Pro

Video about Identifying the Bottom Bracket on a Schwinn IC Pro Bike

  • This video will help easily determine what kind of bottom bracket you need for your Schwinn IC Pro
  • You see in the video there are four available
    • The first one showed is the OEM style bottom bracket, on both ends it is a square tapered shaft bottom bracket
    • We offer a Sportsmith bottom bracket kit including the crank arms and crank bolts
      • This is also a square tapered shaft bottom bracket
    • We also offer two ISIS style bottom brackets
      • One is a 1 7/8" diameter
      • The other is 1 3/8" diameter
      • As you can see in the video these both have a round splined shaft
      • To identify which ISIS bottom bracket you need you will want to remove the crank arm and measure the hole in the frame that the bottom bracket mounts into
  • You will have to determine if you need a round splined shaft or a square tapered shaft
  • If you do need the round splined shaft you will have to know if you need the 1 3/8" or the 1 7/8" diameter bottom bracket
  • Knowing these things can reduce the frustration of buying the wrong parts and shorten down time greatly

Where can I find a bottom bracket and maual for a 96 schwinn sidewinder, is this a bearing or cartridge style bottom bracket?

No one makes manuals for specific models of ordinary bikes, especially Schwinn. Try their website for the generic manual.

As far as the BB goes, it hardly matters what it IS right now. You can and should replace it with a cartridge-style one to make adjustment a no-brainer. A bike shop should be consulted as there is a Black Art to matching up the old cranks to the new BB shaft so the chainline stays about the same. Special tools are also required but DIY is possible.

What is the replacement for the bottom bracket on the Schwinn Clear Creek men's bicycle. The bracket needs replaced and I am not sure what bottom bracket to purchase-Thank you

If you don't have all the special tools necessary you might want to take it to a real Bicycle Shop and ask them for advice on the BB and maybe purchase the tools if you want to DIY. Proper BB lengths are a function of the bike and the cranks.
