Tip & How-To about Miele Washing Machines

Miele W946i washer/drier faults-water leaking from back of machine

This tip/guide should be read in conjunction with the excellent tips for the 945i machine given by Bill W. This particular fault may be observed by water leaking from the bottom (vent) hose from the condenser, at the back of the machine, eventually causing the flood/drain fault light to come on. Although the 946i was modified by having a fluff removal cycle that flushed water into the fan outlet, thus removing the fluff/debris build-up that caused the problem in the 945i and so well described above, the condenser fault causing water leakage is common to both machines.

Certain points mentioned in Bill's tip are relevant: draining the drum and pump at the front; then removing the plastic kick-plate in order to extract any tools or bolts that might have fallen during the operation described below. N.B. it is not necessary to remove the front door and seal-plate unless the dispenser assembly, drain pump etc. is to be removed. In particular, wear gloves as the drum will cut at some points on it's circumference at the back. Finally, Corbin type pliers are indeed a must otherwise those brown wire clips that fit on the bottom two condenser hoses are extremely difficult to fit. ( A towel underneath will catch whatever is dropped hopefully or look at floor- level into the bottom tray but mind the float switch assembly.)

I found removing the condenser quite easy and a lever was very useful; reinserting it was also easy by pushing the drum at the same time as reaching down and pushing in the spigot into the rubber drum seal at the same time. (Greasing the seal with a little petroleum jelly certainly helped.)

The leakage from the bottom hose was caused by fluff/lint debris blocking the bottom aperture to the condenser. Inspecting this will show a plastic double- walled box with one aperture half-way up. The bottom one is not obvious and can be seen by shining a lamp from the bottom up. It does not take too much debris to block this hole; hence the tell-tale small leakage that might go unnoticed until eventually the red-light comes on etc. A piece of bent wire can clear this leakage and then wash everything through so that your dried clothing will be as clean as when the machine was new. Once the condenser is back in place-the raised ring should not be visible if it is pressed home properly The fan-box aluminium to plastic seal need to be carefully remade: don't trap the rubber strip and good silicone rubber will ensure the seal works. The four hoses should all be back in place and don't use lubricant when replacing them as they are quite confined and could come off during use of the machine. You have now made a saving of at least £160. Good luck.

How do you clean a Maytag Neptune top loading washer

Tip: Prevent a Smelly Washer With Powdered Dishwasher Detergent

I have a great tip for making a smelly clothes washer smell fresh and clean, given to me by a Maytag repairman. Simply run dishwasher detergent powder, not liquid, through your machine with no clothing in it, about once or twice a month.
It works and it is cheaper than the specialized products that do the same thing. Use the same amount you would use of laundry detergent for your particular machine.

I have a WTD1073F Brandt Top Loading washing machine which is coming up with d17 as a fault message. could you please tell me what the problem is and how to fix it.

"sensor drum" or (better) "position sensor" (service manual code : 55X3607 http://www.2shared.com/document/HqarbJ-V/TX768AF_FA.html ).
Problem : After three or more minutes the machine stops spining.
Solution : Check the service manual at page 12 & 13 and you will see a component (part 427) which has two little cords.
Disconnect and reconnect this plug thoe or three times in order the pins inside the plug to clear from the dirty. If you have you can spray it with some spray for electronics. After this power on your washing machine.
If this does not work you have to replace the position sensor as "bill.spyrakopoylos" says.
