Tip & How-To about Samsung Televison & Video

TROUBLE SHOOTING TIPS

NO POWER
Check the fuse F01. If the fuse is open change the fuse after confirming there is no other faulty component.
If fuse is OK the check C10 voltage is normal or not. If its not normal then change BD01.
If the voltage on C10 is normal the check the SMPS switching ICs IC01 and IC02. If found faulty change IC01 and IC02.
NO DIGITAL AUDIO OUT
Check the current digital audio stetting is its in PCM or Bitstream . IF it's in PCM then change it to Bitstream.
If ther is no diagital audio out even after it to bitstream, check the AV receiver settings. If everything is ok there too then check the AUDIO DATA at AIC Pin 4 (for BD)or AIC3pin 13 (forDVD) using CRO. If there is no audio data the change the main PCB.
If the AUDIO DATA id ok then check DIGITAL AUDIO DATA at pin7 of AIC3 if there is no audio data then change AIC3. If its OK, Check 5V at AIC2 pin 14. If the 5V is missing check the power supply. If 5v is ok the change the main PCB.

start by checking the power at the mains terminal, then check the continuity of the power input cable. if its healthy then confirm that all fuse in the cable plug is ok.remove the cover and check on the switch mode power supply.conduct a visual inspection to acertain any blown component like the fuse, swollen filter capacitor, the burnt resistors and diodes. if they do not seem to appear phisically burnt then conduct a meeasuring test with a multimeter.
replace any faulty component and test the television by opening the power input fuse and connecting a 100w bulb in series and feed in the power. if the tv oscillates and the bulb lights up then gets dim gradually then the tv is working hence you can now remove the series test bulb and place back the fuse and connect all the cables in place and feed in the power and you see your tv lighting up

I try to turn the tv on but there is no power.

check the incoming power with a tester and if ok then check the plug fuse and if burnt replace and if ok proceed to open the tv cover and check the cable continuityand check the fuse in the power supply region if blown, check other components inthe power supply area and replace the faulty ones if any then open the fuse in the power supply and connect a 100w test lamp to see if there is a short circuit. if the bulb lights up and gets dim gradually you ca now remove the lamp and put backthe fuse and test again

however, your tv problem could be solved by simply replacing a burnt fuse but its always advisable to verify the cause of the blown fuse

cannot get my tv to turn on

check if there is power in the mains, check the continuity of the power cord,if healthy check the on/off switch. check the fuse if blown.if ok check by visual inspection for any burnt component in the switch mode power supply.
if you cant locate any, then you can measure the current limiting resistor, the rectifying diodes, the filter capacitor.also check the horizontal output transistor.
after finding any faulty component replace and test by opening the fuse and connecting a 100w bulb in series to verify if you succeeded. if the bulb glows bright and remains then there is still a short which you still have to find.

Samsung 153V LCD Monitor Power Supply Repair Tips

Troubleshooting Samsung 153V LCD power supply is just like troubleshooting those CRT type. This monitor came in with no power symptom. If you are first time repairing this type of power supply, I recommend you to first remove the switch mode power transformer. Then test every single component in the primary section, before you continue to check the secondary section.

You have to be good in testing basic electronic components in order to detect the fault. You can always browse through my website just in case you do not know how to test basic electronic components. If you do not know the right way to check, you might miss out a bad component and this will lead you not able to solve the problem. After carefully checking all the components in the power supply section, I found the filter capacitor do not have any reading using digital capacitance meter (open) , the two round type fuse also open circuit, 1N4744 15 Volt zener diode short circuit and lastly the power IC TOP247F blown!.

Testing the SMPS (switch mode power supply) primary winding with a **** smith fly-back tester, shows green bar which indicates good winding. What we left here were the secondary diode and filter capacitor. Upon checking them with analog meter and ESR meter, found all of them to be good condition. Other area like main board and inverter board also looks okay (Power failure rarely affect these two circuit). Now we have confirmed that only five components found to be faulty.

One by one the components were replaced (except one fuse) and just before you switch on the power supply, make sure you connect a 100 watt light bulb across the live ac line. Once it is done you can then proceed to switch on the LCD monitor to look at the brightness of the bulb.

If it very bright, this suggests that there are still short circuit somewhere in the power section. If it dim or totally goes off, you can now place your red probe to the secondary side to check if any dc present at their respective line. If there are DC voltages present at the output, you can switch off the power, discharge the filter capacitor (for safety purposes), remove the light bulb and connect back the new fuse to its original location.

You are now hundred percent sure that the LCD power supply won
