Makikng repairs easier

I take either detailed pictures or even video of the disassembly process that is the start of any repair or examination of a problem. When you need to reassemble the car, coffee maker, firearm, or computer or anything else that has a specific order the parts need to be replaced or wires routed or even where the screws that are long versus the slightly shorter ones go this is a life saver.

its a long process for the novice. I suggest getting a repair manual at your local autoparts store to help in your troubles. The process includes finding the timing marks, partial disassembly of engine to access timing belt/chain. To sum up the process, you disconnect your battery, remove timing chain cover, line up timing mards on camshaft/crankshaft which could be dots, marks or grooves, replacing the belt/chain, and reassembling engine. The repair manual will give step by step instructions as well as pictures. To post all that here would take more than 10,000 charecters of text, which fixya limits us to 10,000 charecters. Very long detailed list of procedures for sure!

how to repair a motorola rdu2080d PTT button

If the push to talk button is damaged. You will need to disassemble the radio to get to the circuit board. The PTT is usually surface mount soldered to the board. You will need silver electronics grade solder, a flux pen, a solder sucker or solder wick, a replacement PTT, a soldering iron 25 watts or greater, screwdrivers to match the screws in the casing during disassembly, a table mounted vise to hold the circuit board during repair/ soldering, a very fine grit sand paper to remove any oxidation off the terminals of the PTT for a perfect solder connection, and probably a magnifying glass to inspect the new solder connection with the PTT to the circuit board.

Most of the soldering tools can be purchased at radio shack.

if you have no experience soldering, I recommend going to YouTube and watch the videos posted on DIY soldering to get a good understanding of the whole process from start to finish. There is a huge amount of informational videos on the subject there. I could sit here and try to explain the whole process and why but as the saying goes a picture is worth a thousand words (but a video is worth a million ).

Hope this helps. Have an excellent day.

I'm thinking of replacing my broken LG EnV3 lcd with a kit from ebay. Are there any detailed instructions, preferably with pictures or video which would help me do this? I can solder, and I have a backup phone in case this doesn't work.

I did it with that $38 module off eBay, and I was successful. I have about 30 years of electronics build and repair experience, and am a real do-it-yourselfer. It wasn't what I would call "easy"; it's not just a quick open it up and plug in the replacement unit. It took me about 2-1/2 hours (some of that was careful exploration in the process of disassembling), but it did work perfectly when I turned the phone back on. Yes, soldering is required in a couple spots.

Please read my post in this thread for more detail. If I get time, I'll post an even more detailed review of my experience somewhere and try to remember to post a link to it back here.

Especially if you take the attitude that it's only a $40 risk, and you accept that it may not work, then in the end, it was a challenging puzzle to solve, and it was definitely rewarding to recommission a 4-month-old phone with both displays broken due to accidents.
