Tip & How-To about Home

CLEANING A FIBERGLASS/PLASTIC SHOWER PAN

USE BAKING SODA AND VINEGAR DILUTED 1:1 WITH WATER. YOU MAY NEED A SCRUB BRUSH, BUT IT WILL DEFINITELY CLEAN THE PAN. SPRINKLE THE BAKING SODA GENEROUSLY AND THEN DOUSE WITH THE VINEGAR SOLUTION. WAIT FOR THE FIZZING TO STOP, THEN SCRUB RIGHT AWAY. LETTING IT SIT FOR AWHILE DOES NOT HELP. YOU MAY NEED TO RINSE AND REPEAT, BUT IT WILL WORK.

I HAD TRIED A MYRIAD OF OTHER PRODUCTS, INCLUDING LETTING BLEACH JUST SIT THERE FOR HOURS, BUT THIS TRULY SAVED ME FROM POSSIBLY PAINTING THE PAN OR REPLACING IT. DO NOT USE VINEGAR SOLUTIONS ON GROUT OR GRANITE. IT WILL ETCH THE GRANITE AND DISSOLVE THE GROUT.

What lime scale / detergent remover can be used for regular cleaning of my front loader.

Front-loading washing machines are energy efficient and use less detergent than top-loaders, but they sometimes have a tendency to harbor mold and unpleasant smells. By giving your washing machine a quick clean once a month, you'll keep your front-loader fresh, which means cleaner clothes, too. This eco-friendly method doesn't use bleach, costs only pennies to make, and comes together with ingredients you already have on hand.
What You'll Need:
  • 2 cups vinegar
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Scrub sponge
Directions:
  1. Start by mixing together the baking soda and water in a small bowl. This is going to be the "detergent" for cleaning the washing machine. Pour the vinegar into a measuring cup and head over to your washing machine.
  2. Add the baking soda mixture to the detergent container of your machine and pour the vinegar into the drum. Set your washer to normal load at the hottest water setting. Close the door and start the machine, letting it do all the hard work for you. The baking soda and vinegar naturally break up mineral deposits and any mold growth while cleaning and refreshing your washing machine.
  3. Use a clean scrubber to rub around the opening of the washing machine, removing stubborn mold or residue. Wipe clean with fresh water.
  4. Your washing machine is sparkling clean and ready to do a load of laundry! Give your front-loader a cleaning once a month to keep your clothes smelling fresh and your machine working in tip-top condition.

My ice cubes have a funny odor/taste.

Does your refrigerator have a water filter? if it has one it will be in the kickplate/grill below the freezer door. If it has one replace the filter.

need to know best way to clean; inside & ironing surface. thanks, Glenn

It depends on what "gunk" is on it.
If you've been using the iron for doing laminate adhesive (contact cement) you would need to use lacquer thinner.
If it's just dirty from common household ironing duties you could use baking soda and vinegar.
Apply with a q-tip,or with the iron unplugged, you could fill a shallow pan with the solution and carefully lower the bottom of the iron into it.
For baking soda/vinegar use approx 1 tsp powder to 1/2 cup vinegar.
For the inside of the iron use straight vinegar.
Pour vinegar into the water fill hole, shake gently, let sit for about 10 minutes, then rinse with water. Hope this helps.
