Mirrors: Place Mirrors to Increase and Enhance Natural Light -- Brighten Your Room!

Before hanging a mirror, ask, "What time of day do I spend the most time in this room?" At that time, carry the mirror around the room to find a place where it reflects natural light. Light will scatter around the room, creating a bright feel without glare.

Select a location to hang your mirror by holding it up on different areas of the wall. If possible, ask another person to hold the mirror while you stand on the other side of the room to judge the best spot for displaying it. Once you've decided on a spot, mark the wall lightly with a pencil along the top and bottom edges and/or corners of the mirror.

    • 2

Place a level against the wall horizontally at the top pencil marks and tilt it up and down slightly until the bubble centers inside the glass tube in the level.

    • 3

Draw a line lightly with your pencil along the edge of the level.

    • 4

Lay a thick towel or blanket on a flat work surface and place the mirror on top of it, reflective side down.

    • 5

Wipe the back of the mirror with a damp cloth to remove any dirt or debris sticking to the surface and wait 15 to 20 minutes for it to dry. In addition, wipe the wall down and wipe or air-dry it. If either surface has greasy or oily stains or other marks, wash the surfaces with mild detergent, rinse thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any residue, then wipe or air-dry.

    • 6

Affix strips of heavy-duty, double-sided, mirror-mounting tape to the back of the mirror along the sides, top and bottom.

    • 7

Remove the paper backing from the double-sided tape strips, align the top of your mirror with the pencil line on the wall and press the mirror firmly against the wall.

    • 8

      Erase any visible pencil marks.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you need to mount a heavy mirror without putting a hole in a wall, hire a professional mirror installer.

  • Never touch the adhesive surface with your fingers because you can transfer oil to the adhesive that can reduce its ability to bond to surfaces.

Can I hang a mirror in my dining room? What effect will it have?

You can hang mirrors on the wall by your dining room table. When you have guests, it will create an illusion of a very full house, adding warmth to the dining room area. If you light candles at the table, they will be beautifully reflected in the mirror.

I bought a full sized mirror in a garage sale and really want to use it but my lounge is very small. Any advise?

You can use full size mirrors to create a very dramatic effect. As long as it's framed, you don't have to hang the mirror but can put it on the floor and rest it on the wall. It will help create the illusion of space of light throughout the small room.

PS3 problems At home I have a new samsung hd 1080p TV that I normally use for my PS3. I will be in a hotel outa town for the next couple of days and I wanna watch a movie using my PS3. In my hotel room there is a LG tv (LG 32LC5DC) that is HD 720p. I turn on my PS3 and i get sound and no pic. I have an hdmi cord hooked up and the other audio cord also hooked up. I know this tv works properly bcus I hooked up my 360 to it and it works jus fine but only on the 720p setting. I reset my PS3 by holding the power button down and a screen finally shows. It says, "An available HDMI device was detected. Do you want to output video and audio using HDMI?" And I can select yes or no. I select yes and the screen goes black again and the Tv says no signal again. So I try all that **** again and select NO this time. The screen goes black but this time the Tv acts as if everything went thru but still no pic jus a completely black screen. Normally Id say forget it and just hang out at a bar. But Im in the middle of nowhere for the next 4 days and all I have are some Blu-rays and a half a bottle of Crown Royal

I had the same problem, stuck in a hotel room for 2 days. When I held down the button, next time I turned it on, I got the same prompt with using HDMI output, said yes, and screen went black. However, a screen then came up asking if I could see the image or not, but it has a 30 second time limit before it saves those setting, you have to click "No" on this screen, and it will drop the resolution to 780p instead of 1080 and it should work! Make sure you're paying attention so you don't miss the screen!
