Tip & How-To about Imex Pocket-Dop II Doppler with 2 MHz OB Probe- P200

Use the right probe frequency for your application

The Imex as well as generally any hand-held doppler has probes which operate at specific frequencies, with many able to swap-out the heads to allow different frequencies to be used... The bottom line in what is going on it the reflection of the ultrasound off red blood cells and back out to the probe head... like a sonor does in water. It becomes important to know what these frequencies are for and which one is best for your needs:
Basically, the lower frequencies (2-3Mhz) have a wider "view" of what is being listened to, as opposed to the higher frequencies (5-8Mhz or more) which have a more narrow "view" to precisely pinpoint something to listen to. Obviously, this makes the higher frequencies more penetrating since they are more focused.

The result is that highly detailed specific observation such as looking for a small blood flow application (vascular) is better facilitated by the higher frequency probe. Vascular applicaitons usually use the 8Mhz probes, and sometimes a 5Mhz if the need to "search" for flood flow if needed. The narrow window of "view" also helps ignor the periferal noise of other sounds that would be in the way if a lower frequency (wider "view") probe were to be used.

Likewise, listening to a baby's heartbeat is focusing on a larger target so a wider "view" is needed in this case. The 2Mhz probe is most common, but a 3Mhz might be needed if the target is too deep inside the mother (deeper *********** needed in this case).

As you can imagine by now, a balance between focus, ***********, periferal noise, and quality of sound bring the choice of head frequency a calculation. More sophisticated dopplars utilize multiple frequencies processed by a computer to get the best of both sides of the concept of ultrasonic dopplar function.

For a home user wanting to listen to a baby's heart or finding their pulse and vein, it might be a good idea to have both a 2 and 8 Mhz probe so your tool can perform both ends of the spectral "view" concepts. We buy a wide angle and a telephoto lens for our camera, and this is a good parallel for this analogy.

what frequencies I can use vertex VX 400 U radio

Not sure what frequencies are allocated in India for UHF ham, but may i direct you to the following: join yahoo group specific to your radio Make/Model, there you can get info and you can download manuals, schematics and other goodies.

I'm sure, but not 100%, that ham bands around the world have similar allocations on 70 cm band UHF, but as I stated, not 100% sure.

Best regards,

This unit will allow the function of the shower head or the hand held shower individually. You can make both operate at the same time but the performance will be dismall at best.
