Tip & How-To about Health & Beauty

Using Tums while pregnant

Studies have shown that nearly 80% of all pregnant women experience heart burn or acid reflux at one point during their pregnancies. Nearly 60% of women report fighting a constant battle with heart burn or acid reflux throughout their entire pregnancies.
Many of these women suffer quietly and many of them take Tums or other antacids to ease the discomfort.
Because of increased blood production during pregnancy, many women develop an iron deficiency. Anemia can cause exhaustion in the mother and problems such as premature birth in the fetus. Anemia is usually treated with an iron supplement, taken at bed time. Doctors recommend that iron be taken at bedtime because consumption of the supplement along with dairy products can render it ineffective.
Ironically, women also tend to suffer discomfort from heart burn and acid reflux when lying down in bed at night.
What doctors don't often tell women is that taking many antacid tablets can also render iron ineffective.
Therefore, it is particularly important to curb your Tums intake at night so that the iron supplement you take can actually be effective.
Studies have shown that in order to get rid of indigestion problems while making sure your iron supplement is effective, you should not take more than 6 Tums a day and to avoid taking them for at leas two hours before and after taking your iron supplement.

Definitely in most of the cases pregnancy is the major reason of temporary snoring or we can say snoring for short period of time in women.

Several reason of snoring during pregnancy like
  • Cause of snoring is associated with pregnancy hormones, while relaxing the muscles in the mouth and the mucous membrane in the nose increase, resulting in vibrations that cause snoring sounds.
  • One more cause for snoring associated with pregnancy arises because the amount of blood in the pregnant woman rises naturally, which can lead to swollen nasal membranes.
  • Gaining weight, which is a natural byproduct of carrying fetus, which also contributes to the suddenly emerging snoring problem.

my wife is pregnant and she suffers abdominal pain.what are the common problem/stomach pain during pregnancy period.

This is an extremely common side effect of pregnancy. During pregnancy you have a few reasons for this:
1) Increase in progesterone, decreases the contractility of smooth muscle. Smooth muscle is what makes up the bulk of your Gastrointestinal Tract. This decreased contractility will lead to nausea, constipation and sometimes cramping.
2) Increase in abdominal size will lead to pressure on the GI tract especially the stomache causing heart burn and slowed emptying of the stomache.

Good Luck! I hope this helped!
