Tip & How-To about Crafts & Hobbies

Tips for Picking Paint Colors: If you don’t think you’re a very creative person but want to paint your house or even just a room, you might be feeling overwhelmed by the challenge of picking a color! Don’t panic – here are some top tips for helping you choose a great color scheme for your painting project. 1.Use the color wheel. Don’t be afraid to take a look at the color wheel – it’s not just for decorators to show off to their customers with. You can ask someone in a paint shop to explain to you how primary, secondary and tertiary colors work together (or sometimes against each other). 2.Try and decide what kind of ‘energy’ and brightness you want in the area you are painting. Is it a lounge that you want to be cosy? Or a bedroom that’s modern and bright? It really helps to visualize the end result. 3.Are you hoping to your space look bigger or a large room cozier? If so, you can use color to help you. Small spaces will benefit from pale, cool colors and larger areas can be made to feel more intimate with warm, darker colors. 4.Watch out for lighting issues. Natural daylight shows the color in its truest way whereas fluorescent lights cast more of a blue tone over the overall color. So make sure you pay attention to the lighting issues around the area you are painting. 5.If you want to play it safe you can always go for neutral colors. These are colors that don’t stand out but you can use furniture and decorations to really add the splashes of color while keeping the walls in more subtle neutrals. Have fun! You can always paint really small areas to see how it looks on the wall. And try to be bold – you’ll probably be surprised with how good it looks.

With Cancer On Fifth House Cusp you find the most pleasure and joy in your recreational pursuits when you are in the company of people or engaging in activities that are from or reminiscent of your childhood. You seek to feel emotionally nurtured, cared for, and/or protected by participating in activities or spending time with people that you hold fond memories of.
However, it's usually less about the activity itself, and more about how the activity and/or person or people you are doing the activity with make you feel about who you are.
With Cancer on the cusp of the fifth house we are dealing with creativity more than any other affairs of that house, although children, love affairs are involved. This is because, on a basic, mundane level, the Cancer person would tend to hold on to children, not cut the apron strings. For example, a woman with Cancer here would mother her boyfriends so that again, the basic emotions can be a trap into which she would fall when it comes to her relationship to her children and to her dates.
But on a higher octave, when we are thinking in terms of creativity, again the compassion and the understanding will enter into the picture. Now any creativeness in mankind must be coupled with emotion or feeling. An artist who only paints bowls of fruit certainly is demonstrating the technique of art, but a Cancer person on the cusp of the fifth house can paint a picture which would have an underlying theme of great feeling, compassion would be involved in the product. So it is, again, producing the "children" that is very important here. The feeling aspect must be there, but it must be a higher octave of it.
And, of course, always by direct reaction to the opposite house and house affairs, we are involved or concerned with the development of relationships. In the fifth house, the Cancer person must be very cautious about emotionally gambling with life, taking risks, taking chances needlessly. Again, it is the need for being more objective through the element of self control.
One of the Cancer qualities of emotional intensity could well be modified by the sunny qualities of Leo, since the fifth house is naturally Leo's house; the idea of taking it easy and enjoying rather than becoming tense with life.
As far as the creative quality is concerned, Cancer on the cusp of the fifth house could be rather intuitive in any creative talent, or creative product.

I painted light gray that now looks lavender on the wall...I am pretty sure it is the lighting in the room (CFL bulbs) as when I take the roller into another room with natural light or fluorescent lighting it looks grey again. The light bulbs are normal size 60 watt bulbs in a ceiling fan...any suggestions on which kind of bulb I can buy to mostly closely mimic natural sunlight or fluorescent lighting?

I painted for many years. And now work with photoshop each day.
The selected grey was probably in the blue family instead of yellow family. Most interior colors look better if they come from the warm yellow family, including greys.
There are greys for every color in the spectrum ... from yellow to red to blue. If you pick a grey with bit of red, it will start to look mauve. Orange and it will look brown. Blues inside the grey will turn purple real quick.
Moreover, all colors and finishes are contextual and pick up surrounding colors. Especially satin-or-shiny finishes, because they pick up local colors that change intended hue. For example blue drapes will turn white room bluish. If the house next door is red, and the light comes in window, it will turn white room into pink. Green leaves, and the light from window turn white room green. So when you pick a grey that has bit of blue, the color can change for many reasons beside light bulb. Each room is totally different.
Most folks pick colors by looking at color chip in the store, instead of painting a section of wall inside home. And most folks do not ask the paint store clerk which tints are in that particular color. Sometimes the black tint will turn some bases into a bluish hue.
Go back to paint store and get another grey color from the yellow spectrum.
