I have the bike pump and a Scott bike with these newer narrow long valves and cannot get the pump to work. The pump is short type with a metal lever at the valve end. Seems you extend the lever to fasten the pump to the valve? I push the valve deep into the pump female mount and then extend the lever? Then it seems to have a firm grip. BUT NO PUMP action - like the lave is closed? How do I do it? Thank.

Sounds like you are doing everything right on the pump end.

The culprit is probably with the Valve. There is a small tip on the end that needs to be unscrewed to allow air in and out. Loosen up the tip and give it a couple taps to make sure it is moving freely then try again.
