Tip & How-To about Cooktops

How to keep your cutting boards from warping

To keep a cutting board in good condition never rub it with vegetable oil as it will eventually go rancid. Most cutting board conditioners seem to be top secret as they will not divulge what they have in it. Upon researching the internet i discovered that you could use paraffin or a food grade mineral oil. Mineral oil although a byproduct of gasoline manufacture is not toxic as almost all other petroleum products are. Brake fluid and transmission fluids are based off of mineral oil... but it is fine orally used for medical purposes as well. Cutting boards need to be turned over periodically and oiled monthly especially as the weather turns to wet weather... or as it goes back to cold dry air.

my baumatic hob keeps sparking for no reason! i was cleaning it and now they keep sparking and i dont know what to do! also, is it dangerous, will gas be leaking?

No. You have some moisture around your igniters. They will stop eventually or you can use a hair dryer to help them along.

You probably have a bad gas regulator. Have a service repair technician replace it. Good luck!

Cillit bang damage to stainless steel hob

I left cillit bang on my Whirlpool stainless steel hob. It left a real mess and looked ruined, however I have a solution. You need Astonish cream cleaner, I got mine from the Kleeneasy catalogue, just get a damp cloth and rub gently all over. You might need to do it a few times, wipe it clean with kitchen roll then rub some oil (I used olive but baby oil is good) and it should buff up to a really good finish.
