Tip & How-To about Luggage & Travel

Packing cubes are not just for travel!

I am a huge fan of packing cubes and get asked all the time by friends if there are other uses for packing cubes for people who don't travel often. The answer is yes, I use my packing cubes all the time even when I'm not traveling. The size and shapes of packing cubes lend themselves to being used in drawers at home all the time. For example I have a drawer that holds my socks and underwear, I used to have a kind of imaginary divide between the two but their came a point where I was stuffing in socks and underwear all over the drawer and it was taking longer in the morning to sort out the two. Then it occurred to me, I use packing cubes to organize my clothes when I travel why can't I do the same for my clothes that stay at home?

It started with the socks and underwear drawer, but when I realized that their already being in packing cubes made packing for travel more expedient I started to expand my drawer cubing. In my T-shirt drawer I have a lot of white undershirts that I like to keep together because I wear them more often than my colored T's. So I arranged my T-Shirts according to the colors of the rainbow and stacked them in cubes and I no longer have to spend time searching for the shirt that I want.

You can probably also use the smaller cubes or sacks to organize all your loose wires in your drawers, but I have found that having the clothing in my drawers in cubes makes finding what I want to wear easier and when I do pack up to travel I just have to grab a few cubes. put them in a duffle and I'm good to go.

Are there big advantages to using packing cubes for travel?

I have found them to be a great investment. I used to use zip-lock bags to pack my clothes, but packing cubes are much more durable and compartmentalize my bags better because they have more shape than the zip-lock bags. Also you can get them in all different sizes so even shoes can fit into a cube so you don't have any loose luggage saves you the fear of all your clothes falling out all over baggage claim conveyor belt.

Is it worth spending the money on packing cubes or folders? or are there better ways to organize your things in a suitcase?

Packing cubes or folders can be a great way of separating your items in a suitcase when you travel or in your drawers at home etc. If you are a very disorganized person, they can help you keep things together ie all your jumpers or underwear, but it's not cheap if you buy a lot of them.
Some people use ziploc bags or old tupperware containers to achieve the same effect. So it really depends on your budget.
Good luck.

What are packing cubes?

Packing cubes are lightweight fabric made cubes (not always in a square shape) that let you separate your clothes and items into different sections. They are great for traveling to put inside a suitcase and make your unpacking much easier.

I have a 2004 suzuki forenza and one mechanic told me that the engine was gone and another told me it's probably the timing chain, how do you know which is which?

Neither are hugely wrong.

Does it have a timing chain or belt. If it has an over square engine and the timing chain or belt has snapped, then the valves which let in the fuel and air and let the exhaust gases out travel up and down driven by the cam shaft and the pistons will travel up and down driven by the crank shaft. Without the belt or chain to keep them timed, they meet with great force, at least a top engine rebuild.

To check if the timing chain or belt has broken, you'll need to take the belt/chain cover off. Disconnect the battery first.

If its an under square engine, the pistons have a longer bore to travel, the pistons and valves don't meet.
