Tip & How-To about HP Compaq Presario SR1500NX (PX786AA) PC Desktop

Computer beeps

If you try to power on your computer and nothing happens but a bunch of beeps there is something you can do. The beeps actually mean something. To make sure you can hear the beeps check in the bios options. If there is an option for a silent boot you won't hear any beeps. If you hear one beep every time your computer starts then you don't have to worry about this.

If you want to check this setting refer to my other tip on how to enter bios and change boot settings.

If you try to boot your computer and nothing shows up on your monitor do these steps first.
1-Check all your cables in the back of the computer.
2-check your power source and power cord to the monitor
3-try another monitor if possible
4-If on a power bar try to turn off the power bar and reset the breaker

If you try to boot your computer and nothing happens and you hear beeps look at this website. The beeps you hear are actually telling you what is wrong. Look at the website by clocking on the link below and click on the computer beep codes link. If you want to scroll down past the link it will show you bios codes to enter the bios in your computer

My computer got tipped over and won't boot up It beeps 4 short beeps and nothing happens. What does the beeps mean? It's a gateway dx4870-h with motherboard IPIMB-AR Rev:1.02a

The beeps mean that something has come unplugged from the motherboard, likely the video card or memory. Check that all the cards are plugged in fully, and you will likely be fine.

When I turn on my packard bell ixtreme 6052 nothing appears yet it does see computer but does not even go to bios and harddrive read light remains on and harddrive is constantly ticking like it's desperately trying to find something before eventually the hard drive gives up computer power light remains on and at that point we have to flick off switch as nothing happens all the while nothing shows up on screen.

This could be lots of things (bad HD, bad Mother board, bad RAM,etc...) first you need to narrow down the possible cause, open the computer, take out every thing that can be unplugged (I MEAN EVERYTHING) RAM, PCI cards, VIDEO cards, all storages HD, CD ROM, etc... just leave the CPU and power supply plugged in, than power up the computer and listen for BEEP's if you hear a series of BEEP's this means the CPU, power supply and mother board are GOOD, than (with power OFF each time) re-install the components you taken out (ONE at a time) to see which device causes the system crash... I've seen a modem card causing a system mall function once rediculous but true...

Good luck!

i have a dell d600 and the power light comes on for about 3 secs. then goes out and nothing happens... help...

Hello,

This is common issue and that typically means your Processor is dead. If you dont hear any beeping and it powers off after three seconds without any activity on the screen means BIOS hasnt even found the Processor and without the processor you will get no POST. Post is a bunch of tests for hardware components and give beep codes if it finds an error. Only issue it cant post an error if the processor isnt working. Solution, order a new processor for your laptop and replace it or buy a new computer. If you order a new processor be sure to order some thermal paste too.

Thanks,
ArmyMason

Beeping with no boot up

Beep codes mean something has gone wrong with the computer. Beep codes most likely happen for: Memory, Processor, Motherboard.

Try reseating the memory in the computer.
