Tip & How-To about LG RC797T

LGRC797T Getting Stuck on INITIALIZE DISC?

Problem - You put the DVD recordable media in and it takes about 30 seconds before it identifies the disc and says Initialize Disc?

You click OK and it takes the full 2 minutes only to stick after 2 minutes and do very little but spin. Disc will not eject unless power is removed first.

Disc will read DVD's ok.

Solution - Clean the lens with a cotton bud and Isopropyl Alcohol very gently. Shine a flashlight onto the lens to see if the reflection is clean. If not the soft wood of a match stick with a small piece of clean silk can be used to rub the lens with as little pressure as possible.

The DVDR should read and the initialize, although it says will take 2 minutes, should jump to the end quickly and the DVDR+ sign appears in the corner.

(My problem first occurred after some painters were sanding in the house and the machine got full of dust, but the clean did not last long and it turned out there was a smudge on the lens which you could not see without the flashlight. Once it was removed the recorder was back to working order.

the dvd wont initialize blanc discs so that i can record with it.i have used different disc as well

Do you mean it won't format/initialize the disc? Alternative possible problem, when you put in a disc, does it not recognize that a blank disc is in the unit? Only DVD-RAM discs need formatting. DVD-RW discs need to be initialized. DVD-R disc do not need either formatting or initializing. (This unit does not write to DVD+R or DVD+RW discs.)

In the case of DVD-RW discs that can't be initialized. Check if this has already been done (or if you need to unfinalize the disc).

If the new disc is not being recognized as a blank disc, the recorder may not be recognizing the disc (dirt, scratches or manufacturing issue) or the recorder is not focusing on the disc properly. In the first case, clean the disc or try a different type of disc (Samsung claims that their discs will be most compatible). In the second case, the unit may need service.

I hope this helps.

6 seconds into recording the following message appears: write error - to recover disc, presss OK. having pressed 'OK' the screen then shows 'Disc Loading' message - this takes time and uses up battery power. Then it shows: Disc is not formatted Format? (with options) Format disc as requested but then cycle starts all over again. Help please.

It turned out to be a simple case of a defective disc, which, for some reason failed to work satisfactorily. I replaced it with a fresh disc (JVC 30 min DVD-RW) from he same batch and it formatted ok and worked well too. I checked that it had recorded and I was pleased to say that it had. So let's hope that that was the cause of my problem, because the camcorder is now just out of warranty.
Many thanks for your halp in this matter.

when i put a blank DVD+R disc in the recorder the screen tell me. Please wait while disc is perpared. Nothing else has happen for 30 Mins the yellow bar goes all the across the screen. i then cannot get the disc back out unless i unplug the recorded, plug it back in and then eject thje disc.

The first and foremost thing is that you verify that your dvd recorder is compatible with DVD+R discs and not just DVD-R.. This can cause the problem's you are having with it, you can check the manual to see what media types it accepts.

Samsung DVD -VR 357 wont record or playback

Take player apart and clean the lens with a q-tip and alcohol. It is very simple and mine was doing the same thing until I cleaned the lens. DVD or CD lens cleaning does not clean it well enough.
