Tip & How-To about Microsoft Windows XP Professional With Servise Pack 2 (e8503040) for PC

Steps to Delete Files Used by another Program

Unable to delete a file and annoyed by Windows giving this message “Cannot Delete Folder: It is being used by another person or program”? Don’t know which process to kill?

It happens many times that we want to delete a file or a folder but can’t do so and get an error message that the file is in use. It also happens that we can’t even rename or move the file.
Well the solution is quite simple and in fact there are many of those:
1. You can download this utility called Unlocker and easily close the applications

Well the solution is quite simple and in fact there are many of those:
1. You can download this utility called Unlocker and easily close the applications

using the file before deleting the file.
2. You can also try this option:
Run cmd and go to the directory where the file is using cd command. Then just type the following command
del xxx
where xxx is the full name of the file.
3. But if you don’t like installing any software then this solution is the best for you (I also use this method most of the time).
Reboot the PC and as soon as the system boots up just delete the file, it will be deleted easily. The only thing is that you should delete the file before it is used by the actual program.

unable to remove yahoo messager

this is assuming you are using windows and have already tryed add/remove programs in control panel.

Download and Install CCleaner. run it then try again, if it still wont uninstall, delete the yahoo messenger folder under program files on your C drive, run ccleaner again, use the uninstall tool delete the yahoo messenger entry, then run the registry cleaner.

Hi as soon as i click copy project on PT Publisher it says disc loaded but at same time a box pops up saying unhandled exception and then the whole program closes down.

Please use these instructions below to completely remove the program.
1. Go Start - Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs. Find PTPublisher and click Remove.

2. Go to C:\Program Files\Primera Technology. Delete the "PTPublisher" folder

3. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\PTI. Delete the "PTPublisher" folder. (The "Application Data" folder may be a hidden folder)
On Windows Vista and Windows 7 go to C:\ProgramData\PTI. Delete the "PTPublisher" folder.
Do not delete the "Drivers" folder from PTI.
Note: This folder contains your log file and personal settings such as default print quality, burn speeds, and default file locations. If you delete this folder, all settings will be returned to their factory defaults and the log file will be cleared. Rename this folder to "PTPublisherOLD" if you think you may want to retain this information.
4. Remove Burn Engine.

32Bit Windows - Browse to C:\WINDOWS\system32 and delete the following 4 files from the System 32 folder:

64Bit Windows - Delete the following files from C:\windows\sysWow64

Also delete the PX storage folder located at c:\program files\common files
5. Reinstall the latest software from the installation disc or from the files downloaded from our download site.

6. Reboot the PC. (Do NOT reboot until you have reinstalled PTPublisher)

Hello and welcome to FixYa . In order to re-install WinDVD 9, remove all traces of WinDVD manually only delete the folders if they exist, and if allowed. If you cannot delete a folder, try renaming the folder by adding .old to the name of the folder. You will need to show hidden files and folders on the computer on XP go to Start, All Programs, Windows Explorer, tools, Folder Options, View, Hidden files and folders, Show hidden files and folders. Using windows Vista Start button getopencontent.aspx?assetid=4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33&documentset=en-us&renderkey=xml, Control Panel, Appearance, Personalization, Folder Options, View, advanced settings, Show hidden files and folders, OK. The following folders will need to be erased.
Go to My Computer Use Start button, or on the Desktop. On Vista, Computer. Double click on C: drive, Documents and Settings and the folder named after your username.
When you reach the "InterVideo" folder, there will be a DVD9 folder, which is the one you are looking to erase. Note -This folder may be named Corel\DVD9 instead of InterVideo\DVD9 Erase the following folders Go to C:\Program Files\InterVideo or Corel delete the folder DVD9 Go to C:\Program Files\InterVideo\Common delete the folder Bin Go to C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information delete the folder {E3993D46-AE3F-402E-9F9D-EEBDFBEC3564} Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files delete the folder InterVideo Go to C:\Program Files\InterVideo\Common\ delete the folder Bin The second place to remove WinDVD 9 settings is in the registry.
Go to Start, Run type in regedit click ok. left hand column will be a list of items double click on HKEY_CURRENT_USER double click Software and InterVideo At the very end, when you reach the InterVideo folder, erase the DVD9 folder, by right clicking on it, and hitting Delete. Erase the following HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\InterVideo delete DVD9 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\InterVideo\ and DVD9 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall and {E3993D46-AE3F-402E-9F9D-EEBDFBEC3564} Restart the computer. Go to Start Run type in "%temp%" and hit Ok.
