Tip & How-To about Health & Beauty

What to do if you run out of shaving cream

I have very sensitive skin & spend alot on good shaving creams & gels. BUT when you run out in a pinch you can use your hair Conditioner it actually works really well & softens your skin while your using it! Sometimes to save $ @ the store I'll just forego the expensive stuff since I already have Tons of Conditioner @ home.
Hope it helps! :)

Do depilatory creams just remove hair from the surface of the skin like shaving or do they go deeper?

it's a good question. Depilatory creams are like a mid way point between waxing which pulls the hair from the root and shaving which just chops it at the skin level. Hair removal creams dissolve the hair right under the surface of the skin so the regrowth afterwards is finer than with shaving.

Do you need wet skin before you shave it?

You don't have to be wet before you shave your legs, but you do need some kind of barrier, such as shaving cream before you put the razor on your skin.

However, having a bath or shower up to ten minutes before you shave your legs will soften your skin and relax the hair follicle. If you use a mild exfoliator on your skin before you shave it can also help to get rid of dead skin cells.

Any tips for shaving my bikini line? Should I use a special gel or shaving foam?

Actually, what you lather on to your skin before you use the razor will make a big difference. Don't use regular soap.

Using a proper shaving foam can help moisturize your skin, give a smoother shave and help to prevent ingrowing hairs. It's worth spending the money on a proper product.

How should I use a shaving cream?

You should apply your cream or gel by massaging it in a thin, even layer. If you are using glycerin-based shave soap, apply an even layer using a badger bristle shave brush. The idea is to use enough cream to lubricate your skin and soften your beard while helping the razor glide smoothly with minimal irritation; too much cream or gel will cause your razor to skip and clog.
