Tip & How-To about GE 168997 Deep Fryer

Will not power on, powers off, will not heat Pwr light out or goes out.

Like most of the problems listed on FixYa about this Deep Fryer ours worked fine the last time we used it, but we could not get the power light to come on again. I found that there is s SAFETY Micro-switch on the heating element control unit. This switch prevents the heating element from being turned on when it is not in the Fryer Pan. The accuator lever for the switch is located under the guide slides on the heating element control unit. It is a metal lever which is moved as you mount the heating element control unit on the fryer pan. You have to look closely under one of the guide ledges on the heating control unit to see it . The problem is that over time the adjustment of the lever changes as it flexes under use. I simply readjusted the lever by forming it with a pair of long-nosed pliers. CAUTION !!!!!!! You can bend the lever so far that the switch is closed all the time defeating the Safety Switch and create a hazard in that the unit will heat as soon as you plug it in whether inserted in the Fryer Pan or lying out on any surface. This might burn someone or cause a fire. Good Luck

why doesnt my deep fryer heat up ?

First it is good to check the fuse by unscrewing the plug.

If the fuse wire is not broken, it means that the deep fryer could be broken.

replacment cords

On 11/17/07 I posted my problem with this fryer. I did not get a solution so today I called the customer service number 1-877-207-0923 and Virginia (customer service rep) suggested that I order a new cord ($5.95 plus shipping of $5.95). I should receive it in 7-10 days by UPS ground shipping. My model # is #168997 cord # PL1215. I hope this helps.
