Tip & How-To about RIM Cell Phones
Did you know that the track ball on the 8100 pearl blackberry isn't the only thing there that can go wrong? first the track balls are inherently freakybad. (yes thats one word!) second after the ball is replaced (Ebay $3 or free from tmobile store) there are still things that could be wrong with your blackberry Enter or track ball.
for instance if it scrolls but doesn't click or keeps clicking then this could be happening to one of the other items that is on the phone UNDERNEATH the ball.
Ill show you in stages and the first would be to remove the phone in parts.now you know by now that this will void any warranties so your on your own. That being said if you have a T6 (T meaning Torx ) and some of these are in socket sets kind of like an Allen wrench but in a star pattern. and a different tool to pry the sides. in this video you can see it and order it from them.
after it disassembled then it will look like this on the keypad. then if you zoom in you can see the next photo, it is s tight shot of the center below the track ball with track ball AND buttons removed. however this green is also called a PCB or printed circiut board. so this is the bottom layer. and the track ball is the top layer,
so in between are 2 actual parts of a button. the ABOVE shows yellow ports, with solder joints next tot he PCB, next to the PCB is the black bottom of the button. for the kids. there is a top and bottom to this button but the bottom if you got it new would have 4 leggs. these solder into the PCB. the top part of the black button shows the inner and outter circle. when the then top actual button is pressed this connects the inner and outer circle thus making an Enter stroke or positive strike.
this is a new top button. its basically a sticker that sticks on the top of the soldered board grounding port onto the PCB.
now trying to find such a board for a board is both intimidating and time consuming and i wish i could tell you i found a source. but alas I have not. But I did find a button source. Ebay, now ebays photos **** and I tried to give you full res here but it won't let me... I ran my phone into the sink which means... moisture on mine. and as you can tell it corroded the inside of the button. and these parts are small, so i like to work on a flat white surface. Yes they are chock-able so make sure its in quiet time or sleep time for the little ones.
