Tip & How-To about Marantz SR-7200 Receiver

Marantz SR-7200 reset

This was documented on the Marantz website briefly a year ago and is no longer available. My SR-7200 develops "click/pop" problems and a reset cures it of these issues.

While powered "off," on the front panel, press: A/D + FP +Dimmer (3 buttons) and power the unit on.

This reverts to original (out of box) settings. You then must reprogram input sources, speaker setup, levels and radio stations.

Check Speaker connections at BOTH ends and double check to see that they are on the right terminals.

If you need a manual . the Marantz site will have one . PLus they may have FAQ notes for that receiver

DSP (Digital Signal Processing) Board is probably defective or has Poor solder Connection on one of the Ic's on that board. Board cannot be Obtained from Marantz. Must be troubleshot at component Level and requires a very knowledgable tech to repair it. I have done a few of these in the past and usually charge $50 to Evaluate and Give estimate. kstahl65@att.net

It is likely that the PA stage has developed an offset voltage in the output stage. The faulty amplifier channel can be found by progressively disconnecting the collectors of the of the power transistors until the protection fault disappears. Once the faulty channel is found the the cause of the offset has to be traced to the faulty transistor or resistor. Don't forget that if you can smell smoke or burning then there are likely to be components(esp transistors) that have been damaged by the fault.
I had a Luxman unit that destroyed 5 transistors in the output stage that was due to an open .5W resistor in the driver stage.
Good luck.
