Tip & How-To about Linksys Computers & Internet

How to reset a router

Routers have a reset button on the back usually next to power inlet. This is usually amenable to pressure with fine pointed object. Find a ball point pen and tip of which is ideal for the purpose. Do not reset a router unless you are sure to erase any new settings made after the purchase of router!
Press and hold reset button for 30 to 60 seconds and some times even longer is needed. This process puts router back to factory default setting which means any modification done by user are lost!

how do I change a forgotten admin password

You'll have to default the router back to outta the box settings. To do that you hold the reset button in with a ball point pen or tooth pick for 6-10 sec depending on the brand. You don't say what brand. The button is normally recessed in a hole on the back next to the power jack.
You can find a list of default passwords on the internet by brand and model number. Linksys/Cisco is usually User Name <blank> and Password admin. Then once inside you'll have to reconfigure everything unless you have the config saved on a PC or Laptop.

how do you reset a magellan roadmate 1220?

As a general rule, for Magellan RoadMate models the RESET BUTTON is on the right side inside a small hole; the use of a pointed object (tip of a pencil, a ball-pen, etc.) is required to apply pressure on this button in order to perform the RESETTING PROCEDURE.
You may also can try to hold down the POWER BUTTON for 10 seconds to power off the device; then repeat the same procedure (holding down the POWER BUTTON) for other 10 seconds to power on Magellan RoadMate.

router does not recognize my internet connection. what can i do to fix it?

Reboot your "modem" first, if it has a battery backup, disconnect it first. You want the "modem" to totally lose power. Plug it back in and let it sync up before proceeding to next step.

Next: On the back of your "router" you will see a small hole with a button inside of it, press and hold it down for 10 seconds. I usually use the tip of a fine ball point pen or end of a paperclip to do this.

You will need to reconfigure your "router", things like wireless SSID, wireless security, router password and such.
