Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

Jumping Cursor

If you experience a jumping cursor where it jumps from one line to another, go to this link and download the driver for ALPS pointing device. This is from Toshiba (thanks to them for having the most updated touchpad driver) but regardless of your computer, IT WORKS!!!

After downloading the driver
>Go to Control Panel
>Open Mouse icon
>Go to Advanced Tab
>Click on the Advance Configuration Button
>Mark the following options with a check:
>>disable tapping
>>disable pointer movement
>>disable scroll function
>Click Apply
>Try typing on a word pad

Hi rbdav1,

Based on your situation. I suggest trying the following steps:

1. Download touchpad driver from here:

2. go to Touchpad section and make sure you select the Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 version of the drivers that matches your Windows operating system.

3. After downloading the touchpad driver driver install it and then restart your computer.

4. Log back in to your computer then go to control panel --> open mouse properties then look for Alps pointing device tab.

5. Under Alps tab uncheck tap off when typing.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for using FixYa

Best regards,

My Acer laptop Aspire 7520-5185 the cursor jumps around all over the place when I'm typing in any program. It has done this from day one.

Hi there!!!

A program called touchfreeze will automatically disable the touchpad as you type... it can be downloaded from this link: http://touchfreeze.googlecode.com/files/TouchFreeze-1.0.2.msi

Hope it helps!
