Cisco 7942G IP phone works in home office but it does not work in remote location

Hi J,
Typically corporate use VPN for these kind of critical service access. Check with your IP Tele/Network admin and get VPN access or may be OfficeExtend or any other solution employed. Corporate don't expose their UC servers on internet w/o security.

how do you block numbers

Most of the telecom service providers offer call blocking features. In addition to this, most of the vtech cordless phone sets have built-in features through which you can block incoming calls from a specific number.
    • Create a "Call Block List" on the vtech phone and store the Caller ID information of unwanted callers in the list. The numbers you feed in the block list will get a busy signal every time they try to call you.
    • Ring up the customer service of the telecom company that is providing you the phone service. Tell the representative that you want to get your incoming calls blocked from a specific number. The company will then add that number to a list of blocked numbers for your particular phone number. In the future, every time an unwanted caller tries to ring you up, he will hear a recording saying the number has been blocked.
    • Visit the website donotcall.gov. Add your phone number to the website's list of phone numbers that cannot be reached by telemarketers and businesses.

how to block unwanted number

  1. The first thing you can do is to make sure your cell phone number is unlisted. This is a simple step but it's the first step in keeping unwanted calls from your cell phone.
  2. You can unmask the Caller ID on blocked incoming calls, obtain the phone number, and in some cases the name and address, of the "anonymous caller" by using a service called "TrapCall." You can also listen to your voicemail over the internet.
TrapCall allows you to unmask numbers, record your calls, voicemail transcriptions, block unwanted callers, and gives you caller id for your cell phone. See resource link.
  3. Register your number with the "National and State Do Not Call Lists." The National Do Not Call list is run by the Federal Trade Commission and you can sign up online at the resource link below.
  4. Even after signing up for the "Don't Call List" and getting that unpublished number there are still those times when the telemarketer finds a way to get through. You can also get unwanted calls from ex-boyfriends and ex-girlfriends'. These people have your number from your previous relationship. You don't want to change your number, but a few over-zealous ex-mates may not go down without a fight and will continue to call after you have told them to stop! In this case, you'll need a call blocking device. These devices allow you to control who calls you, and gives you the ability to permanently block their numbers. See the resource link at bottom of article for a list of these devices.
  5. Set up an account with "Reverse Phone Detective" service in order to find out the Unknown numbers that appear on your caller display. This will allow you to see who and where the number is coming from. Check the resource link "Reverse Phone Detective" below.

Don't rely on your cell phone provider to block unwanted calls for you. For some inexplicable reason, most carriers do not provide you with the ability to block unwanted callers.

My best bet is to go with the google voice number(you can do a lot of things besides blocking unwanted numbers and its free) ..

here is the link to find more information about it

how can i block a number on a nokia 6500c my service provider can not is there any other way for blocking unwanted calls

The 6500c does not support conditional call forwarding (CCF) which is useful if your carrier does not provide blocking services. I have owned several nokia, a samsung, two LG, and currently have a blackberry 9330. If unwanted calls are a serious problem, consider upgradeing to a mobile phone that supports CCF. Conditional call forwarding can be used to forward any unwanted phone number includeing calls from unlisted, unknown or restricted callers. Depending on where you live, the call can be instantly forwarded to a service, such as trapcall.com, that unmasks the caller in addtion to providing the standard message "This number is no longer in service" for example.

Nortel IP phones going to server unreachable even when connected

Our company is in the business of setting up equipment and providing advice over the phone. We have hundreds of calls a day, now we use a small VOIP system. But the number of calls is already overwhelming the available pool. We need to look for an alternative.
