Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

How do I Sync Only Checked Songs on my iPod

If iTunes is set to sync automatically, the program will try to sync the library with your iPod automatically when you connect your mobile device to your computer. Although this makes it easier to automatically sync the iPod up with your latest information, you can also choose to only select songs to synchronize with the device. This gives you more control over your iPod library.

1. Open iTunes. Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB cable for iPod.

2. Click to cancel "X" in the iTunes window when the program tries to automatically sync with iPod.

3. Select your iPod in "Devices" list in iTunes. Then click the "Summary" tab at the top of the window.

4. Select the "Manually manage music and videos" option from the summary page.

5. Click the "Apply" to apply the change.

Can I sync two different iPods to the same computer

1. The automatic settings in iTunes and iPods will not allow you to sync two iPods with one version of iTunes or sync an iPod with multiple versions of iTunes without the content being completely erased from the iPod. 2. This can be very aggravating if more than one person in your household owns an iPod or you want to add music from a friend's iTunes library to your iPod. Changing the iPod settings through iTunes will let you sync more than one iPod on one computer.

3. Open the iTunes software. Connect one of the two iPods to a USB port found on the one computer. If a small window opens in iTunes after the program recognizes the iPod, you can close the window by clicking "No" or the "X" in the window. 4. Click the name of the iPod positioned under "Devices" on the left side of iTunes. When you highlight the iPod name, a variety of tabs will appear at the top of the iTunes program. 5. Choose the "Summary" tab and options will be listed in the middle of the program. Select the option labeled "Manually manage music and videos." If a window opens, click "OK." 6. Click "Apply" in the bottom right corner to change the settings on the plugged in iPod. Leave iTunes open. Repeat steps 2-6 with the second iPod you want to sync on the one computer.

iTunes lets you add digital audio and video files on your computer directly to your iTunes library. You can add audio files that are in AAC, MP3, WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless, or Audible.com (.aa) format. If you have unprotected WMA content, iTunes for Windows can convert these files to one of these formats. Video content in QuickTime or MPEG-4 format can also be added to iTunes. To learn how to add these files to iTunes follow the steps below.

I'm having trouble just turning on my itouch... I just opened it and tried plugging it into the itunes... and it tells me "This ipod cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device is not started." What does this mean? Where do i find this 'mobile device'?

Your computer must be connected to the Internet.
By default, iTunes automatically syncs all songs and videos in your iTunes library to
iPod touch. If you have more content in your library than will fit on iPod touch, iTunes
alerts you that it can’t sync your content. You’ll need to use iTunes to select some of
your songs, videos, and other content to sync. The following section tells you how.
