Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

How do I use my iPod with MediaMonkey

MediaMonkey is a music and third-party media player that lets you manage and organize music on your computer; you would like iTunes or Windows Media Player. As is the case with both programs, MediaMonkey is a tool to manage music on your iPod. Unlike one of these programs, however, MediaMonkey lets you download free music, not just from your computer to your iPod, but also from your iPod back to your computer.

1. Download and install MediaMonkey (http://www.mediamonkey.com/download/) on your computer if you have not done so. Open your "Start" menu and click "MediaMonkey" icon to start the program.

2. Connect your iPod to your computer. Wait 50-10 seconds to MediaMonkey to the device, when it appears at the bottom of the navigation pane that runs along the left side of the program to recognize.

3. Double-click the name of your iPod content on the main window of MediaMonkey. Drag the songs from your iPod to your MediaMonkey "Library" to transfer to the hard drive of your computer.

4. Manually transfer songs from computer to your iPod by dragging them individually from your library MediaMonkey the name of your device in the navigation program. Alternatively, "Sync" click away from the "Tools" menu on your device to sync with MediaMonkey - all numbers that appear in your MediaMonkey library will also be on your iPod.

my ipod won't organize the music, I've tried putting it in different folders. No matter where I put them, they all go to the same file on the ipod which is all music. When I look into the artist, there's nothing. How do I organize the music so I don't have to scroll through to the song I want to hear?

Your MP3 player (which is not an iPod, by the way) probably displays the "tags" in your music files. These are the artist, album and song titles that are embedded in the music files themselves, and not related to the folders in which you store them, or the file names.

You will need to use a music manager to look at these tags, and set them appropriately. Music managers include Windows Media Player, MediaMonkey, Winamp and others.

unable to sync music purchased from itunes onto zen mp3

I believe iTunes may not like to sync with not apple players, but I am sure DRM protection is to blame here. You can try to sync your music with the software provided by Zen, or a program called MediaMonkey, to see if it works.
Otherwise, if the music is DRM protected .mp4, you can always burn the songs into a standard AUDIO CD, and then rip the music back to your computer, that way it loses the DRM protection, and should be easy to sync without problems.
