Hello,
There are 2 ways you can reset your bios2_bing.gif.

1. On the motherboard there is a small watch battery. Remove this battery along with the power cable from the power supply. Hold down the power button to fully discharge the system. Wait 2-3 minutes then reinstall the battery and plug in2_bing.gif your system. Your reset is now complete

2. Some motherboards have a 3 pin jumper by the battery. Lets say that the jumper is on pins 2 and 3. Remove the jumper while the machine is OFF and place onto pins 1 and 2. Power on your machine for a minute. (Note: Your system will not POST). Shutdown your machine and put the jumper back to pins 2 and 3. Your reset is now complete

This is a great troubleshooting2_bing.gif step for those of you having POST issues or no POSTing at all. Like other troubleshooting steps, this will not always work but usually will depending on the problem.

Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.
Thanks.

Power on your system, Press F2 on Dell logo. This would take you to system BIOS. Ensure that USB controller is ON, and USB emulation is also set to ON. Save settings and Exit. System would reboot now. Press F12 on Dell logo, and select USB ROM as the boot device. This should boot your computer through your External drive. If it still doesnt work, try switching to a different USB port. If none of these steps work, it may be a problem with the boot sector on your External drive.

Good Luck!
Abhishek

Hi,
The battery meter should display in the tray by default if a battery is detected in the system.
Let's try setting this manually. Please right click on the Sytem Tray to surface the context menu. Choose "Properties" off of the context menu--this will bring up the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" dialog box. Select the "Notification Area" tab. At the bottom of the tab, is the "Systems Icons" area. There is a check box for "Power". Please "check" the checkbox and click the Apply or OK button. The Battery Meter should show up in the tray.
Let me know if this works. Also, it would be helpful if you could send me the manufacturer and model of your notebook.
Thanks,
SF

Which version of Microsoft Word are you using? Older versions use Equation Editor. If you did not install it, you can do so from the installation disc. If you are using Word 2007, typing math equations is already ready to go from the Ribbon.

A persistent operating system error on your Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop requires more than just a system restore as there is a problem with a driver that a system restore cannot correct.

A full factory reset of the laptop wipes the hard drive clear of all data including existing driver settings and programs and installs the original operating system back to the hard drive.

Once cleared, previous computer files and programs are non-recoverable.

Press "Power" on the Inspiron 1525, and continuously press "F8" on the keyboard when the Dell logo appears on the laptop's screen.

Press the down arrow to highlight "Repair Your Computer," and press "Enter" to select the highlighted onscreen option.

Click your preferred keyboard layout, and click "Next" to continue with the laptop's restoration process.

Type "administrator" in the username field, click "OK" and click "Dell Factory Tools."

Click "Dell Factory Image Restore," and click "Next." Click the checkbox next to the hard drive reformat confirmation, and click "Next."

Click "Finish" to reboot the OS after the restore process finishes, which can take up to 10 minutes.

Hope this helps.

What kind of warranty did you purchase? most of the new laptops come with a 1 year warranty, so the replacement should be covered.

As far as whether or not it is normal, it does happen from time to time that the parts of a laptop are defective which is the reason for the warranty. I manage about 450 Dell laptops and desktops and i have noticed that I have issues with about 2-3% right out of the box. Dells tech support has been very good to me and they have taken care of the issues as they come up.

If this just started in the last few days, try doing a system restore prior to the incident. Its likely driver file corruption. Doing a system restore will often resolve driver issues caused by system updates. Microsoft is notorious for dumping updates on a computer, replacing system drivers with "microsoft updated" generic versions that are not compatible with every system.

If this does not work, you may have to try restoring the original drivers from the CD's Dell provided you with your laptop. If you do not have these, you can download the drivers for your system directly from Dell's support page after entering your Express Service Code for your Laptop (located on the bottom). This will bring up a list of all available drivers based on your operating system and category of drivers needed.

Do you get the Dell logo when first turned on? if yes this indicates hard drive trouble, but if there is no logo the problem will be motherboard, first remove one ram memory stick, if no change remove second piece and replace the first, no improvement it is time to have the motherboard assessed.
