Troy-Bilt 4-Cycle Curve Shaft Gas String Trimmer #41ADT41C966 Questions & Answers
Cannot disassemble Troy-bilt trimmer head
There is a round, rotary black part between the metal piece to which the cutting head attaches and the outer plastic seat of the cutting head. There are two square slots, each about a quarter inch wide, on opposites sides of the black piece. Slide an Allen wrench or something similar firmly into the slot. Holding the Allen wrench in a stable position, turn the outer plastic ring of the cutting head (it has scalloped edges that can be gripped firmly) counter clockwise to unscrew the cutting head from the bolt on which it is mounted. Be careful with the tool (e.g. Allen wrench) used to hold the black piece steady, as it is plastic and could be damaged by the edge of the tool.

Have a Troybilt 4 cycle weed eater. checked oil
Owners manual will state proper oil to be used but a good bet is that it requires SAE 30 wt. oil. Check and make sure no cooling fins are clogged with dirt, grease, debris, insect nests etc. Oil helps cool your engine also, but the proper amount is very important. I recommend synthetic oil for engine longevity. It's superior to standard oil for different reasons.

Oil type for troy bilt weeder 4 cycle model #
Non detergent, straight 30 weight.
Sometimes can be found labeled as "Tractor Oil". Otherwise, any premium 10w-30 I find in my experience with these stout 4-cycles to be just fine!
If breaking in engine from new, out of the box? Change oil with 10 hours on the clock with engine is still warm. You only need 3.2 Oz. to fill the crankcase!
So pour slowly. It is full when the trimmer is placed on a level workbench surface with the trimmer head dangling off the end. There is going to be a slight forward tilt away from the oil fill plug. Fill only until it just literally comes to the bottom of the oil fill plug with the trimmer laying flat on your workbench.
*DO NOT FILL IT UP WHILE HOLDING IT VERTICALLY!*
(I warned you. ;D )
Also at this time, clean and re-oil air filter and check your manual - these trimmers after break in require a valve lash adjustment. .005" @ TDC if my memory is correct....The manual I *think* states anywhere from .003 ~ .007 to be within spec. After break in, only need to adjust valves seasonaly. Regular oil changes @ 20~25 hours of run-time keeps them happy.

Can not remove troy bilt weedeater head
Once all the bolts are removed, tap all the way around, (with a rubber mallet), where the head meets the bottom portion of the motor. It should come right off with a little coaxing.

Troy bilt pull cord wont retract
Recoil spring is broken or slipped out of retention slot. Coil needs to be retentioned or replaced. Unless you have done this before I recommend taking to pro. This is easy job if you have the jig but almost impossible if you don't.
