I have never taken one apart that far but you should be able to access the screws to remove the cutters once the top is off. From that point you should be able to see the optic sensor you are looking for. Not sure if this a plug and play type of connection but should be an easy solder if not.

I have the SC800 apart. My problem is not fixing it. I just need the part. The large gear which appears to be made of pewter has a couple of teeth missing. If I could find the part I can fix it. try to remove as much as possible from top and bottom of unit with a needle nose pliers or similar tool after that you can saturate any left over paper with shredder oil or a vegetable based LIQUID cooking oil. Let sit for 7-8 hours this should soften the paper enough to power thru the jam.

There is no service information available, just an Owner Manual. Somewhere in the throat these is a switch that senses paper in there and that switches the motor on.
