Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them.

Turn the power off and on again message

Hi,

Error: TURN THE POWER OFF AND ON AGAIN is displayed on the LCD screen when the Lens Mechanism is stuck or when affected by any malfunction. If turning the power on and off again does not resolve the error message, try doing a power reset and Initialize option.

Performing a manual power reset

Turn off the camera.

Remove the battery pack.

Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.

Allow the camera to remain without power for 60 seconds.

Reinsert the battery pack.

Turn on the camera.

To reset the Camera back to factory default, select the INITIALIZE Option from the Main Settings 1 Menu of the Camera to OK. This will set the user defined settings back to factory default. The images and videos will not get deleted.

If the issue persists, service may be required.

Thanks for using FixYa.

I am trying to download pictures to my computer.

If there is something wrong with the functions of your camera then the solution is to get your SD or Micro SD memory card out of you r camera. Buy yourself a card reader that accepts that type of memory card then connect it to the USB socket on your computer. The card will be recognized on your computer you then open it and the using the picture viewer that comes with Windows you can see your pictures then you can copy them to your computer.

When i connect my camera

Several factors are important here.
Is the type of computer you have running an operating system that will easily recognize the camera without needing a "driver" loading?
Did a driver CD come with the camera?
Do you still have it if it did?
If you still have your instructions manual find the relevant section and follow all procedures carefully.
Averagely, with equipment up to six or seven years old, recognition should be immediate (or pretty quick)
Connect up then make sure camera is switched on, but don't connect with camera on.
Alternative method is to remove the memory card from the camera when it's off and place it in a card reader - a very low cost device - and connect that to computer instead.

If it is infected, try the corrupted card procedures in the following link. Also take no more pics until you've recovered your photos, take the card out of the camera. This is to reduce the chance of you overwriting some of your "lost" photos. There are many good freeware photo recovery software options that may help you recover your photos. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as iPhoto on Mac or Windows Photo Gallery or Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ) on Windows.

Dsc - w120 flash problem

If tthe flash is not working then it is possible that the unit has failed inteh circuit or the lamp has failed. Unless the camera is opened the fault cannot be confirmed as the trigger unit to the flash comes from the processor, even if this is autto detect. Try to focus into a dark area and see if the flash works, also check the flash with a normal setting, manual setting.
if not it is wise to take opinion for estimate or use the camera minus flash

This device works as a Plug and Play device on some machines and does not on some. What this means is that in some cases, all you need to do is to connect your camera to the computer and it would detect the memory card as an external device and you can copy out whatever information you want from the memory card.
In this case, you might need to install the pc suite for this camera or download the drivers alone and it should work properly.
Follow the links below to obtain the drivers and the pc suite.

HI maxellbati,

Sometimes the flash does not work because of the manipulation in the settings,
Therefore , All you need to do is made sure that the NO FLASH mode is not activated ,

If it's activated then probably you would find an icon of flash with a cross line over it in the LCD.

Please change the mode to auto or flash every time and then the problem should be solved.

If not then you would have to get the flash replaced.

Let me know in case you have any queries.

Hope this helps ..:)
