Top 20 Panasonic Viera TH-42PZ80U Plasma TV Questions & Answers

Most likely is the power board,so I hope you got a good one! The next would be a short on the SC board. The main digital board could be defective in mis diagnostic. Disconnect the SC board and see if the blink code changes. if it changes, the main board is good. If you have a good power board,I vote for a short on the SC board to be checked

Those blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.

From a quick look at the tv spec it would seem to cope with most inputs so I wonder if it may be due to input type selection. Mine on some inputs have sub options on its inputs which would be in the screen menu (mine has rca sockets and can become component or normal video input).
You say you can hear sound but no picture which sugests there is a signal of some sort (tv's and video's inputs become live when a video signal is present but if its poor in some way will not show) but allow sound through.
If the game is old then it may not conform to modern standards so present a blank screen. its hard to say what may be the problem but I think input selection or an incompatible signal looks to be a possible answer (if you have your plug ins correct)

Hope this helps.....

Programming Notes
• If your device does not respond to the remote after trying all codes listed or your brand is not listed in the code list, use the Auto Code Search method to program your remote.
• Sometimes the first code that "works" with your device may operate only a few functions of your device. There may be another code in the code list that performs more functions. Try other codes from the code list for more functionality.
This is a trial and error procedure; and quiet time consuming. You might have to check different codes said for your device.

Try a hard reset to this set, and check. There are two types of reset to TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight is better. This procedure will make it a hard reset. If you want to make it a system reset [Factory Reset]; you have to enter its service mode option, and select the factory reset option. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here.
