Hi Jeff,

The question you ask, is the question many others have asked, and there is very little info available to solve the issue.

If you have the user manual for your radio, go through the trouble-shooting process, to see if that will help.

If you don't have the user manual, then someone who does can post a link on this site for you to download same.

I hope I have been of some assistance.

Best regards,
Peter

Dear user,

If all don't work it means there is some big structure blocking signals, please test them by using them outdoors.

You should ask the others what channals they are on if you cant for whatever reason then scan for a frequincy that has others on it by hitting the scan butten and hitting the channal up or channal down butten, if you can tthen talk on each channal in order and wait 10 seconds for a reply then go to another channal and try agean, im not sure if you can hear others unless they have the same brand radio's but i could be wrong, i am also not sure if the scan butten will work so after it goes through all of the channals 2 times then try the other suggestion. you also want to make sure you have good batteries in when you try.

Hope this helps

  • It takes a lot more power to transmit than it does to receive. So it is possible to listen but not be able to talk. Make sure that the batteries are charged and that the batteries are holding a charge. When batteries begin to fail they won't hold a charge for long at all.

I am sure the OP isn't likely monitoring this, but just in case anyone else needs it... It's a power problem. Try charging the batteries, even though they look like they're fully charged -- or replace with 4@AA batteries.

This only seems to happen on the GMRS channels -- not the FRS ones. The radios come default to transmit at high power (the full 5 watts) on the GMRS channels, but only 0.5 watts on FRS. If you go to settings and change the power on that particular channel you're trying to medium or low, you'd likely find it works with the charge you had problems with.

Recharging or changing to 4@AA batts should get you back up to continuous TX on those high-powered channels.

you may look it up on(Google). Just type in the model number. You'll need Adobe reader, or Microsoft word readers to get it. Some charge money. But I found some free.
